SmackDown Live
Glendale, California
Gila River Arena

April 2nd 2021

The first SmackDown Live after WrestleMania 37 starts with a cold open in traditional SmackDown Live fashion, as we can see DANIEL BRYAN arriving at the arena. He has a big smile on his face, even though he has a bandage around his head and the Men’s Universal title is on show as well. He is joined by the rest of ALPHA ACADEMY: KURT ANGLE, CHAD GABLE and DANIEL GARCIA as well as BUDDY MURPHY! The appearance of the Aussie superstar gets loud cheers from the live crowd before we cut to the opening video for SmackDown Live.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HALESTORM – MAYHEM
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SmackDown Live starts with the camera panning to the commentary desk, showing our new commentary team of Corey Graves and Beth Phoenix. They welcome us to the show and promise an exciting night before confirming we are starting the show, hearing from our new Men’s Universal Champion!

*FLIGHT OF THE VALKYRIES*

DANIEL BRYAN walks out onto the entrance ramp with a big smile on his face, and the crowd lets off a loud “YES” chant for the 6-time World Champion. He is soon joined by KURT ANGLE, CHAD GABLE, BUDDY MURPHY and DANIEL GARICA as they all head to the ring. Corey Graves says in last night’s main event, Daniel Bryan was able to overcome not just Roman Reigns but the entire Bloodline to become Universal Champion for the first time ever. Beth Phoenix says he might not have been able to do it if not for the Academy and Buddy Murphy, wondering what his status is now with The O.C.

The group steps into the ring with Daniel Bryan standing front and centre with a big smile on his face. He says he has known he is the best wrestler in the world and it is nice to have the Universal title around his waist to prove it. He says he couldn’t do it alone and wanted to take a moment to thank some people, first starting with the fans, which gets a cheap pop from the live crowd. He says the support of the fans helped drive him forward and prove he still has something in the tank!

He then wants to thank his wife and children at home, whom he keeps doing this for and looks to inspire his kids to follow their dreams like him. He then brings up Matt Riddle, who will be out of action for several weeks still after Jacob Fatu’s attack, but his help in training throughout the year has been pivotal. He wishes him well in his recovery before saying the rest of The Academy have been here with him and thanks to their help, they fought off the Bloodline, including the newest member: Buddy Murphy!

A pop from the live crowd as Buddy gives a slight smile whilst Bryan carries on. He says he wants to give Buddy a few minutes to explain himself and passes the microphone to the Aussie superstar. Buddy thanks Bryan and says that without his offer, he might still be sticking with Finn Balor’s O.C.. Boos from the live crowd for the mention of the group and Buddy holds a hand up to say he agrees. He says he saw what happened between Finn and AJ as a sign that he was never going to grow in that group like they promised.

Buddy then turns to Bryan and says that the battles he had against Bryan felt like each time he stepped into the ring, he was getting better. He says Bryan tested him and when he made the offer for him to join, he knew it was the right call. He says even when in the O.C., he hated the Bloodline and was happy to fight them, saying he still owes them a few more shots. Bryan takes back the microphone and says he plans to be a fighting champion because he doesn’t know how long he has left and starting tonight…

*DONE WITH THAT (DAY ONE REMIX)*

The WWE tag team champions THE USOS make their way out, and they are not alone as they are joined by the new United States Champion JACOB FATU! The Bloodline stands at the top of the entrance ramp, but they are noticeably without their Tribal Chief ROMAN REIGNS! The crowd still loudly boos the trio as JIMMY USO says they were standing backstage and they had heard enough! JEY USO says last night their Tribal Chief was robbed of his title!

The crowd loudly boos in disagreement with The Usos but they carry on, saying their Chief has taken tonight off to replan but they promise he will be back to take their throne. Bryan steps forward and asks them if they came to talk or came to fight! Jey Uso asks who he is talking to but JACOB SNATCHES THE MICROPHONE! Jacob says he ain’t no coward and if Bryan wants a fight, the 3 of them will fight 3 of Alpha Academy! Daniel Bryan says he was going to issue an open challenge tonight, but if the Bloodline wants a fight, he’ll see them in the main event!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When we return from the commercial break, we see DEONNA PURRAZZO sitting down at a table with fancy food and a nice bottle of wine. She takes a sip from the glass and turns to the camera with a smug look on her face. She says a lot of people are not educated in her work, as we see clips of her submitting women on NXT, including her becoming NXT Women’s Champion. She says she is the virtuoso and soon she will be coming to SmackDown. A graphic flashes up saying Deonna arrives in 3 weeks before we cut back to the ring.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*SEDUCTION*

BILLIE KAY makes her way out, getting boos from the live crowd and this week she is holding a sign saying “The only SmackDown return I want is Peyton”. Corey Graves says Billie tried to get Peyton Royce into the Hall of Fame, but it backfired quickly on her. Beth Phoenix says it is good to have friends, but it takes a lot to be a Hall of Famer like her!

Match 1: Bianca Belair vs Billie Kay

Match summary: Belair takes control of the match early on and lays a beating into Billie right from the start. Billie tries her best to get into the match, but in the end, Belair plants her with the K.O.D!

Winner via pinfall: Bianca Belair (2:45)

Bianca Belair gets to her feet with a smile on her face, picking up another win on SmackDown Live. She stands tall in the ring and the commentary team says she has to be one of the next people in line for a WWE Women’s title shot as things currently stand. The crowd is cheering for Belair until…

*ATHENA*

EMBER MOON MARCHES OUT WITH THE MONEY IN THE BANK BRIEFCASE AND A MICROPHONE! The crowd boos Mrs. Money in the Bank, but Ember just responds to the crowd, telling them that she has seen them cheer people like Belair, so their opinions mean nothing to her! Belair rolls her eyes as the boos get even louder, but Ember Moon says that she is out here because Bianca Belair is the reason she is not WWE Women’s Champion again!

Ember Moon says she had it all planned out and was going to beat Asuka for a 2nd time until Belair stuck her nose in! Belair at this point, has grabbed a microphone from someone at ringside and tells Ember to get in this ring or shut her mouth! The crowd loudly cheers this from Belair and Ember responds by DROPPING THE MICROPHONE AND HER BRIEFCASE CHARGING TO THE RING AS SHE STARTS TO BRAWL WITH BELAIR IN THE RING!

Both women throw haymakers as they try to take one another down, with the bad blood clearly escalating between them. Belair looks like she might be taking control of the brawl, but Ember slips out and YANKS HER TO THE FLOOR USING HER HAIR! Loud boos from the crowd as Ember uses it to stomp on Belair, laying into her with vicious strikes! Belair starts to fight back, but before the brawl can carry on much longer, a swarm of security runs out to break the pair up as we go to a commercial break.

When we return from the commercial break, we cut to the inside of THE BLOODLINE’S LOCKER ROOM with them all sitting around the table. JEY USO and JIMMY USO sit on one side, whilst JACOB FATU sits on the other. Noticeably the seat at the head of the table is empty as there is no sign of the Tribal Chief tonight. All 3 men sit in silence as we hear the door open and TAMINA walks in first. She waits by the door before being joined by NAOMI who is on the phone with someone.

Everyone has their ears glued to Naomi and what she is saying before she hangs up the phone, getting Tamina to take a seat with her. Naomi says she has spoken to Roman’s wise man and he has confirmed Roman is going to take some time to refocus, so we are to hold things down until he comes back. Jimmy makes a quip about Roman running after his loss, but Fatu says to show respect to the chief. Jey says Jimmy is just messing around, Uce and wasn’t disrespecting the chief.

Jacob noticeably side eyes The Usos, but leaves it at that as Naomi carries on. She says Roman has given her a mission and that is to focus on going after Conti’s WWE Women’s title. Jacob asks if there was anything else from the Chief, with Naomi nodding and saying that tonight they have a chance to send a message to Daniel Bryan, plus the entire locker room during his absence, so make sure they get the job done. Jacob and Jey nod whilst Jimmy rolls his eyes as we cut elsewhere.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*LIMITLESS*

KEITH LEE makes his way out when we cut back to the ring, holding his Money in the Bank briefcase with a smug smile on his face. We can hear the live crowd cheering for him loudly, which he plays to. Corey Graves says Keith Lee showed out at WrestleMania and put him over as a former NXT and North American Champion. Beth Phoenix says Daniel Bryan and Big E will be looking over their shoulder cause Keith can cash in the briefcase at any time. Keith gets in the ring and has a microphone in hand, saying he has something to say, but he wants the fans to take a moment of their time…

*DRIVER*

DOMINIK DIJAKOVIC STORMS OUT WITH A MICROPHONE IN HAND! The crowd gives him a mixed reaction, but it is mostly boos. He is in his black leather jacket and sunglasses as he points at Keith Lee, telling his frenemy that we all heard this speech on Monday night and he has no intention of listening to it twice. Keith scoffs slightly at this as Dijakovic steps over the ropes and comes face to face with Keith Lee, as he came out here as he needs to speak to him mano a mano.

Keith just responds with a slight smile, saying he is here right now and is ready to hear what Dijakovic wants to say. Dijakovic nods, thanking Keith before saying he has been watching his old rival closely and seeing what he has been doing down in NXT. Dijakovic says that Keith had been making him proud and seeing him win not only the North American title but the NXT title. That was truly limitless. This gets a cheap pop from the crowd as Keith stays stoic whilst Dijakovic carries on.

Dijakovic says Keith kept trying to push things to new heights and that’s where his reign came to an end. Keith frowns slightly as Dijakovic says Keith not being satisfied was his undoing and he flew too close to the sun, running into WALTER. The commentary team mentions WALTER beat him in the NXT vs NXT UK title winner takes all match at the last takeover. Keith doesn’t look impressed, asking if Dijakovic would like to elaborate on what his point is quickly.

Dijakovic says Keith Lee has his eyes in the sky but when it comes to being on Raw and SmackDown, he needs to be ready to fight in the dirt. Keith looks confused but Dijakovic says there is a reason he has joined a group like The Ungovernables. Keith shakes his head in response. Dijakovic says Keith Lee can judge it, but it helped Dijakovic get his hands on his first gold in WWE when he won the WWE tag team titles with Nakamura. The crowd boos as Keith Lee pauses before responding.

Keith Lee says he understands why Dominik took the easy way to gold, but he never needed to. Keith says Dijakovic is a man who has proved to be his equal time and again in the ring, but instead is rolling with people with no honour. Dijakovic doesn’t have a response as Keith carries on and wonders if Dijakovic has lost a step, hence his willingness to take the easy way out. This angers Dijakovic, who gets right in Keith’s face, looking furious at that line.

Dijakovic takes the sunglasses off and tosses them to the side as he tells Keith to look him in the eyes, telling him he has lost a step! Keith doesn’t react for a moment before telling Dijakovic there is a simple way to prove it, inviting him to meet him in the ring next week on SmackDown. Dijakovic says if that is what Keith wants, he is on but when he wins, he points at the briefcase and walks away. Keith looks unfazed and lifts his briefcase into the air as SmackDown goes on a commercial break.

When we return from the commercial break, we see a pissed off DOMINIK DIJAKOVIC storming through the back when he is stopped by SHINSUKE NAKAMURA and ZELINA VEGA! Neither of them is happy and confronts Dominik about what he just said in the ring. Dijakovic refuses to back down and makes it clear he meant what he said to Keith, calling his spot in The Ungovernables a business deal. Zelina says he needs to show respect to the people who helped get him onto Raw and SmackDown.

Dijakovic glares at Zelina and tells them he has shown them nothing but respect, even when making decisions he did not agree with. Vega says she makes the decisions because it brings them gold, but Dijakovic counters, saying none of them are holding gold currently, looking directly at Nakamura. Nakamura steps forward, asking what he means by that, but before anything can escalate, Zelina says she has a call she needs to take and they will finish this later.

*OWN THE GAME*

NOAM DAR and KENNY WILLIAMS make their way out, getting boos from the live crowd. The cocky Scottish duo walk to the ring, chewing gum as the commentary team says the pair had a few words to say after their loss on Night 1 of WrestleMania. We cut to a short inset promo where Noam Dar blames teaming with Logan Paul for the loss and says he challenged Damien Priest to find someone in the back happy to get his ass kicked by them tonight!

*RISE FOR THE NIGHT*

DAMIAN PRIEST makes his way out, getting a decent pop from the live crowd. He has a slight smirk on his face as the commentary team says it was a successful WrestleMania debut for the party animal. Damian slowly raises the microphone up, ready to address the live crowd with a smile on his face. He tells Noam that Bad Bunny would have loved to kick his ass again, but he had a world tour to prepare for. Priest says it wasn’t hard for him to find someone willing to shut Dar up and this man was more than willing to be his partner tonight…

*EL GRITO DE METALIK*

GRAN METALIK WALKS OUT ONTO THE ENTRANCE RAMP! He gets a decent pop from the live crowd and high-fives Priest as the duo head to the ring. The commentary team puts over Gran Metalik as one of the best high-fliers on the SmackDown roster and reminds us he is a former NXT Cruiserweight Champion. Once at the ring, Gran Metalik steps inside to start for his team, whilst Noam Dar starts for the opponents as the referee calls for the bell.

Match 2: Noam Dar and Kenny Williams vs Damian Priest and Gran Metalik

Match summary: Metalik wrestles at a fast pace, which angers his fellow Scottish cruiserweights who cannot keep him grounded. He works well with Damian Priest, who uses his power and even pulls off some fun tag team moves with Gran Metalik. Dar has to cheat to get back into the match. It doesn’t last long though, and Metalik hot tags Priest back into the match, who takes total control, tossing the Scottish duo around before hitting THE RECKONING for the win!

Winner via pinfall: Damian Priest and Gran Metalik (7:12)

The crowd cheers, happy to see the babyfaces get the win over the cocky Scottish duo tonight on SmackDown. Beth and Corey on commentary put over the duo of Priest and Metalik as a unique duo, but a combination that worked well tonight. The celebrations carry on at the top of the entrance ramp whilst Noam and Kenny throw a sulk in the ring.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We then cut to a restaurant where we can see MANDY ROSE sitting down at the table, looking excited and ready for her date. The camera then pans over to show OTIS DOZOVIC arriving at the restaurant in a fancy suit, looking super nervous with a bunch of flowers. He is muttering to himself and looks like he might back out when SONYA DEVILLE appears behind him. He tells Otis that if he backs out, she will break his arm and Otis nods before walking over to the table, whilst Sonya smiles as she disappears.

Otis makes it over to the table and Mandy gets up, excited to hug him. Both have a huge smile on their face, and we see the date carry on with both of them having fun. We cut to them eating as Otis gets a bit nervous about how to eat in front of Mandy, but she starts to eat like Otis, prompting a smile from him and a chuckle from Sonya spying in the background. Both get the bill as Otis gets a text on his phone and looks a bit down, prompting Mandy to ask him about it.

Otis says it was a medical update from Tucky, saying he is worried about him after what happened to Tucker’s ankle. He says he has never seen Tucker injured like this in their time as a tag team and he has been struggling with it a lot. Otis says Tucker is getting angry about not being able to wrestle and has been focused on wanting revenge on The Usos. Mandy holds her hand out and says that all Otis can do is just be there for his friend, prompting a smile bringing the segment to an end.

*SHAKE SHAKE*

TAYNARA CONTI makes her way out to start the 2nd hour of SmackDown Live, getting loud cheers from the live crowd. She lifts her WWE Women’s title into the air, soaking in the cheers from the fans. Corey Graves says Conti went into WrestleMania night 1 with one goal: to defeat Asuka and she managed to do it to become WWE Women’s Champion. Beth points out that very few women have defeated Asuka, let alone injured the Empress of Tomorrow, because she has to take some time off due to an eye injury sustained in the match.

Taynara Conti steps into the ring and takes a few seconds to look at the crowd before tapping the WWE Women’s title on her shoulder. She takes a moment to thank not only the fans in the crowd but everyone back home watching in Brazil and her family for always believing in her. She says that Xia Li, who has been her loyal tag team partner, has always had her back and without her support, she might not have made it. Conti smiles to herself and says she even had to thank Bianca Belair.

This gets a massive pop from the live crowd as Conti thanks Belair for making sure it stayed a fair fight between herself and Asuka. She holds the title in the air and says maybe she owes her a title match. The crowd cheers for that prospect, which makes Conti smile and says that she doesn’t want to rest on her laurels. Winning this belt means she is the best and she wants to fight the best, issuing a challenge to anyone back there to fight her for this title right now! The crowd goes wild and we wait to see who will answer the challenge as…

*OG BADASS*

MERCEDES MARTINEZ makes her way out, getting a loud pop from the live crowd, excited to see the NXT superstar. Corey Graves says Mercedes is a veteran of this business and one of the toughest women on the planet. Beth Phoenix tells us Conti might have her reign over before it ever truly began. Mercedes steps into the ring as Conti nods with a smile, but her opponent remains focused. The referee, after the usual title announcements, calls for the bell to get this match started.

Match 3: WWE Women’s title match: Taynara Conti vs Mercedes Martinez

Match summary: Conti and Martinez grapple in the middle of the ring to start the match, with both women looking to gain the upper hand early on in this encounter. Conti’s judo experience gives her the edge, and Martinez, being a crafty veteran, realizes she might have to change up her game plan. Martinez starts to focus on strikes and overpowering Conti, taking the champion aback as she begins to control the match as we head towards the closing stages.

She looks to get her in position for BULL RUN (Fisherman facebuster) BUT CONTI COUNTERS INTO THE TAYLOCK! Conti gets the hold wrapped on tight as the veteran struggles in the middle of the ring, but counters into a FIREMAN’S CARRY SLAM! Martinez then looks to grab hold of Conti to go for a modified dragon sleeper BUT CONTI FIGHTS OUT OF IT! Martinez stumbles back as Conti hits a SUPERKICK! Mercedes is rocked as Conti grabs hold of her and SPIKES HER WITH THE DD-TAY! Conti hooks the leg to retain her title!

Winner via pinfall and still WWE Women’s Champion: Taynara Conti (8:50)

The crowd cheers loudly as Conti gets back to her feet and lifts her WWE Women’s title into the air. Beth Phoenix says Conti had to fight with everything she had to overcome a very game Mercedes Martinez. Corey says we most likely will be seeing more of the OG badass as she gets to her feet. She walks over to Conti as the two women lock eyes and SHAKE HANDS! Nothing more, nothing less from Martinez, who leaves Conti to celebrate as SmackDown goes on a commercial break.

When we return from the commercial break, we see ALEISTER BLACK sitting in a dark room looking at the camera. He looks totally broken as he stares into the distance. He takes his time before saying at WrestleMania, it was meant to be him destroying the devil himself. He shakes his head and says he wasn’t strong enough to destroy the devil. Black looks at his hands and says the scars of the past still burn. He says it is time for him to think on what is next with the segment coming to an abrupt end as we cut to the commentary team at ringside, unsure what to make of it!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*FIGHT*

KEVIN OWENS makes his way out, getting a loud pop from the live crowd. He doesn’t look too happy, looking a bit sore after last night’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Corey Graves says Kevin Owens put his body on the line but fell short in the Money in the Bank ladder match. Beth Phoenix wonders if the doubt he had about inflicting pain on his best friend Sami, is what stopped him from walking out of WrestleMania with the Money in the Bank briefcase.

Kevin Owens steps into the ring and takes a moment to speak, saying he has heard what people have said about him pausing when he could have powerbombed Sami onto the ring apron on Sunday. He takes a moment, saying the old Kevin Owens would not have thought twice, but he is trying to be better. Owens pauses as he says that before thinking through his next words. He has said it before, but he wants to be a man his son can be truly proud of.

He walks around the ring and says, doing that to his best friend, a move that could potentially end his career, is not something he is about anymore. Kevin shakes his head before telling the fans and the wrestlers in the back that he hasn't gotten soft; they are mistaken because he showed no remorse in doing the same to Mustafa Ali. Owens makes it clear that he is still willing to take down anyone who gets in his or his friend’s way. He brings up his recent alliance with Aleister Black and says he has been trying to call his friend as of late.

He says Black hasn’t been answering his calls since what happened on Saturday and he gets it. It was a brutal loss in a match that he was looking for vengeance in, but he knows his friend will bounce back. Owens says he knows Rollins is probably hiding in his Church and not here tonight, but he wants to call out the self-proclaimed God, challenging him to a fight. The crowd loudly cheers as suddenly one of the lights goes out. Owens tells Seth he ain’t here for party tricks, but the lights go out one by one until the arena is in total darkness…

THE LIGHTS COME BACK ON AND THE FIEND BRAY WYATT IS IN THE RING! Kevin Owens turns around and the monster LOCKS IN THE MANDIBLE CLAW CHOKING THE LIFE OUT OF OWENS! The crowd gives a mixed reaction having not seen The Fiend or Bray Wyatt in months. Kevin struggles to fight back and soon The Fiend transitions the hold into SISTER ABIGAIL PLANTING KEVIN OWENS TO THE MAT! The Fiend stands in the middle of the ring and stretches his arms out as the commentary team wonders what the monster wants as SmackDown goes to a commercial break.

When we return from the commercial break, we cut to the WWE Women’s tag team champions THE BOSS ‘N’ HUG CONNECTION who are sitting in the locker room shortly after their tag team titles defence night 2 of WrestleMania 37. BAYLEY looks at her tag team title before turning to SASHA BANKS with a slight look of remorse. She tells her best friend and tag team partner that she isn’t proud of how they won but… she pauses before saying she couldn’t handle another WrestleMania loss for them.

Sasha shrugs her shoulders and reminds Bayley that her hero is Eddie Guerrero; she is never going to feel bad for doing what she needs to win a title match. Bayley says they might owe Team Kick a rematch after what they did but Sasha says they have other business to take care of first. Bayley says she is right and confirms they will be defending their tag team titles next week on SmackDown against the NXT tag team of Emma and Toni Storm.

*EMERGENCE*

THE O.C. makes their way out next, getting loud boos from the live crowd with FINN BALOR leading the way with THE GOOD BROTHERS following behind first before they are soon joined by JORDAN DEVLIN! Corey Graves says last night saw the O.C. choose Finn Balor as their sole leader and it wasn’t just the Good Brothers making their choice clear. Beth Phoenix fills us in on Jordan Devlin, saying he is an NXT UK superstar who has been trained by Finn Balor himself and it seems he is part of the SmackDown roster now.

The O.C. stand in the ring as Finn Balor grabs a microphone looking to speak first as he tells the live crowd it is time for a real prince to lead the O.C. He tells the live crowd he had been sharing power with AJ Styles thinking that would get them both back to the top together but he soon realized he was the only one pulling his weight. Finn points out that during their time as co-leaders, only Finn Balor held gold, winning the United States title from Chad Gable at Summerslam last year.

Finn says that AJ kept on failing when it counted and even cost him the chance to win the Royal Rumble. The crowd boos as Finn makes it very clear that he did what he did to AJ in the Elimination Chamber because he knew AJ could not be trusted not to mess things up, and The Good Brothers agreed with him. Finn passes the microphone to LUKE GALLOWS who tells the nerds in the crowd to shut up which just winds the fans up further.

Luke says AJ was like a brother to them, but they have seen that brother get weak and soft as he gets older. KARL ANDERSON takes the microphone, making it clear they didn’t come to the WWE to be liked or to make friends; they came to make money off the nerds watching in the crowd and AJ wasn’t going to help them get back to the top. Jordan then signals he wants the microphone and Anderson obliges, giving it to the newest Irish superstar on SmackDown.

Jordan says anyone who is shocked by what he did hasn’t been paying attention to the UK scene like they should have been. Devlin calls himself the Irish Ace and was trained by Finn Balor himself. Finn has a smug smirk as Jordan makes it clear he owes Finn his career, so when his mentor needed a favour, he did what he needed to and helped an old friend out. Jordan passes the microphone back to Finn Balor, who says it might now also be time to address Buddy…

*PHENOMENAL*

AJ STYLES makes his way out, getting a loud pop from the live crowd. He doesn’t look happy, but stays at the top of the entrance ramp for now. He says Finn Balor knew he couldn’t beat him one-on-one and needed help to even have a chance at keeping up with him. He says his goal was to save the O.C. at WrestleMania, but now he is just looking to destroy them. Finn asks AJ what army, prompting a smirk from AJ, saying he doesn’t need an army, just someone 7 feet tall…

*A LONG WAY DOWN*

BIG CASS MARCHES OUT WITH A PAIR OF STEEL CHAIRS IN HAND! The commentary team reminds us of the fact that he hasn’t been seen since Jacob Fatu injured him 2 months ago on SmackDown, but it seems he has made his choice and is siding with AJ Styles! Finn sends The Good Brothers out of the ring to go after the duo BUT BIG CASS AND AJ TAKE THEM DOWN WITH EASE! AJ and Big Cass head to the ring looking to go after Finn Balor and Jordan Devlin… BUT THEY FLEE THROUGH THE CROWD TO BOOS FROM THE FANS! Big Cass and AJ dare them to come back, but they stand tall in the ring as the show goes to a commercial break.

Edge wants to come out and say he isn’t done with The Bloodline just yet, but he figures that right now, if he is going to get revenge on them, he needs a reset. He finishes the promo, wishing Rey good luck in his quest for revenge on the group.

*THE BEST IS YET TO COME*

APOLLO CREWS marches out, getting a few boos from the live crowd before walking to the ring and hopping over the ropes. The commentary team says this match is a big opportunity to impress as he takes on a legend in…

*BOOYAKA 619*

REY MYSTERIO! He sprints down the entrance ramp and leaps over the ropes, coming face to face with Apollo Crews in the middle of the ring. Corey Graves says Apollo might be able to pull off an upset as Rey is coming off a rough tag team loss. Beth Phoenix says Rey Mysterio is the small competitor in this match but if Crews underestimates him, it will be over before he knows it. The referee then calls for the bell to get this match underway!

Match 4: Rey Mysterio vs Apollo Crews

Match summary: Rey Mysterio comes into this match looking to take down Apollo with his speed, but Crews shows off his own speed and it catches Rey out. Crews controls a lot of the match, using his size advantage to take back control of the match, but just when it looks like Apollo might get a shock win… REY COUNTERS WITH THE MEXICIAN DESTROYER FOR THE WIN!

Winner via pinfall: Rey Mysterio (7:37)

Rey gets to his feet with a smile on his face, having gotten back on the winning track tonight on SmackDown. He gets back to his feet, celebrating the victory as the commentary team says Rey will be happy to get back on track, but they don’t think he is done getting revenge for his son Dominik just yet.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut after that match to a backstage segment taking place inside THE CHURCH OF SETH ROLLINS! We can see his disciples kneeling in front of the pew: KARRION KROSS, SCARLETT BORDEAUX, NATHAN FRAZER, AKAM and REZAR! They all wait for SETH ROLLINS to walk onto the stage. He thanks them for their loyalty and keeps it brief, saying stepping into hell was painful, but he did what gods must. Our WWE tag team champions THE USOS, make their way out to the ring as we return from the final commercial break of the evening ahead of our main event. Corey Graves brings up the fact that they are 8-time tag team champions, with them even beating Beth’s husband at WrestleMania. Beth Phoenix makes it clear she will let that one slide, but gives The Usos credit as potentially one of the best tag teams in WWE history.

*ENEMY*

The United States Champion JACOB FATU makes his way out, getting loud boos after the usual initial warning of his arrival! He lifts the US title into the air, cutting an imposing presence before joining The Usos in the middle of the ring. Corey Graves says Jacob Fatu’s incredible rise continued on night 2 of WrestleMania, defeating Chad Gable to become United States Champion for the first time in his career. Beth Phoenix wonders who can stop the Samoan Werewolf as The Bloodline waits in the ring for their opponents.

*FOR THE ACADEMY*

ALPHA ACADEMY makes their way out in matching attire with BUDDY MURPHY wearing new ring gear. CHAD GABLE is also dressed to compete, whilst DANIEL GARCIA talks to KURT ANGLE, maybe looking to learn a few things from his fellow academy members. Corey Graves says Buddy made the choice to leave the O.C. behind, but wonders if joining the Academy will propel him forward. Beth Phoenix says he will be learning from some of the greatest of all time, like Kurt Angle and…

*FLIGHT OF THE VALKYRIES*

Men’s Universal Champion DANIEL BRYAN walks out getting a huge pop from the live crowd, with the fans doing the “YES” chants to herald his arrival! He joins his tag team partners for the night before leading them to the ring. Corey Graves says The Bloodline will be out for vengeance on behalf of their Tribal Chief. Beth Phoenix counters, saying maybe they might be looking for new leadership since their Chief is the only male member without gold as it stands! Once ringside and a brief chat, Buddy Murphy starts for the Academy, whilst Jacob Fatu demands to start for the Bloodline even as he is slightly limping.

Main event: Alpha Academy w/Kurt Angle and Daniel Garcia vs The Bloodline

Match summary: Buddy Murphy comes firing out of the gate and catches Jacob Fatu off-guard, not used to people being this willing to take the fight to him in the opening stages of a match. Fatu soon shows why most men don’t charge at him and sends Buddy flying back with his unique series of power and speed! Buddy tags out, and we get Daniel Bryan across the ring from Jacob Fatu. The Usos ask for a tag, but Fatu shakes his head, making it clear he wants to fight The Universal Champion!

Bryan lets Jacob charge in, but makes sure to dodge the charging werewolf and targets the right leg that Gable had been working over last night. Bryan has a lot more success than the former United States Champion in targeting the weakened limbs of Fatu, but the new United States Champion forces an escape, bringing The Usos back into the match. Jimmy and Jey turn the tide of the match, making it a more normal trio tag, isolating Chad Gable as they work him in their corner of the ring and cutting any attempts to let Gable escape from the Academy.

As the match reaches the closing stages, we see Chad Gable finally escape from the corner of the ring, bringing Universal Champion Daniel Bryan back into the match as he runs wild! Bryan peppers everyone with yes kicks and dominates in the ring before tagging Buddy back into the match. He looks to Gable and they wipe out Jacob Fatu plus Jey Uso as Buddy grabs hold of Jimmy Uso, hitting him with MURPHY’S LAW! Buddy makes the cover and scores a huge victory on the SmackDown after WrestleMania!

Winners via pinfall: Alpha Academy (12:05)

The crowd goes wild as Buddy Murphy has just pinned one-half of the WWE tag team champions tonight on SmackDown. Fatu is shown falling just short of making the cover and kicks the steel steps in anger. Jey Uso comes over to calm the werewolf down whilst Alpha Academy celebrates in the ring and SmackDown comes to an end with the commentary team wondering if the dominance of the Bloodline when it comes to SmackDown could be due to come to an end!

- Jordan Devlin as the newest member of The OC...Iove it that you have Balor, Gallows, Anderson and now Devlin that's 4 strong in this faction and I love it

- Murphy seems to be out of The OC...but I wonder if they make him pay for that decision? Murphy it looks like he's joining Alpha Academy

- The Bloodline do not seem to be done with the WWE Universal Champion Daniel Bryan or Alpha Academy

- The Wise Man to The Bloodline will turn out to be a returning Paul Heyman and Heyman will align himself with Roman, Fatu, The Usos, Naomi and Tamina

- Looks like Bianca Belair and Ms Money in the Bank Ember Moon...it looks like their rivalry is being renewed here

- Tay Conti presenting Open Challenges...similar to John Cena back in the day when he gave Open Challenge matches for his WWE United States Championship...I actually like this

The Bloodline dealing without Roman for a little while shall be interesting, with cracks already showing with Jimmy and Fatu. The drama that follows, especially after the loss in the main event should be fun. I'm glad we got an explanation from Buddy Murphy for joining Alpha Academy. He continues to feel like a star in the making. My only concern is you've got some serious names in this group, guys like Angle, Garcia, Gable, but they all feel like they're just there at the moment. Bryan and Murphy seem like the only ones that matter.

Purazzo coming to Smackdown is something I'm excited for.

Athena being mad at Belair after messing with her cash in makes sense. The follow up here was solid.

I enjoyed the Lee/Dijakovic segment as well playing off their history to set up a match next week.

Not much to say about Priest getting another win, albeit this time with an actual wrestling partner. No issues with it, it's just kind of there as follow up until he moves into what's next.

Otis/Mandy date needed more comedy.

Enjoyed the Tay/Martinez stuff here. Not only is it an exciting post Mania moment to have an NXT wrestler show up on the main show, but it sets the scene for Tay's title run to. She's going to be a fighting champion clearly.

Kevin Owens' words were good here, but I can't help but feel that the whole trying to be a better man will eventually lead to a heel turns when he doesn't get better results. I didn't necessarily expect a feud with The Fiend, but it feels like a fine way to continue the direction I assume Owens is heading.

Bayley starting to have some regret is interesting. I'm hoping that's not the start of issues between her and Sasha. Nearly all your stables/teams have some form of issues lingering in the background, not sure we need anymore for now.

Promo was fine to establish Devlin as a member of The OC, however AJ and Big Cass fighting against them doesn't really jump out as overly interesting at this stage. You haven't necessarily booked it badly or anything, it's just not jumping off the page right now either. Kind of feels like maybe it's missing something...

Rey Rey getting back on the winning track is fine.

My one major issue with this post Mania period is it feels like you've fallen into a default of big name wrestler loses and then resets, and the only way they reset is by taking a break. Feels like Roman, Edge and Aleister Black are all following a similar path based off my initial judgment, and it feels a bit to same/same to all be happening at once.

A solid if maybe slightly less eventful SD than I expected coming off the big dance...

Thanks for the feedback, I do agree Otis and Mandy needed more comedy but I really struggle writing it. I did have more written but what I wrote for it comedy wise I thought was bad so I removed it. I do plan to do more with Gable and Garcia in the months to come (for context I have written the next 3 weeks of TV for both shows so it will take a while for feedback to show). I will also spoil that Bayley's regrets are not leading to a break up for the team cause yeah I do have a lot of groups having issues within. Edge was mostly just because I didn't have anything planned for him post-WM and to explain why not on TV as he did take regular breaks when on WWE TV but yeah I think him also taking a break at the same time as Black and Roman (who the break was planned into the story) is not the best writing from me.

Monday Night Raw Recap
Bakersfield, California
Mechanics Bank Arena
April 5th 2021

HOUSE OF MEMORIES - P!ATD

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday Night Raw would start with The Hurt Business making their way out to the ring and cutting a promo explaining their attacks from the previous week. They made it clear they want their gold back and would do anything to take it back. All the members appeared united, except for Lio Rush, who noticeably didn’t seem to believe in what he was saying. As the promo wrapped up, Keith Lee made his way onto the entrance ramp.

The Hurt Business seemed confused as Keith Lee declared that any business involving the Men’s WWE title involved him, raising his Money in the Bank briefcase. The exchange between Keith Lee and The Hurt Business grew tense, with Swerve especially challenging him. The tension mounted until The New Day and The Street Profits emerged, joining Keith Lee on the ramp to make it clear they weren’t going to take last week’s attacks lying down—they wanted the smoke.

With all six men at ringside, they charged the ring and a massive brawl broke out, energizing the live crowd. The action continued for several minutes until Raw Commissioner Wade Barrett came out with a microphone, demanding order. He announced that if everyone wanted a fight, they would get one later tonight in a 6-on-6 tag match. He also promised a major announcement for Backlash at the end of the show.

When we return from the commercial break, The New Day, The Street Profits and Keith Lee are all chatting to each other backstage ahead of their 6 vs 6 tag team match, now set for tonight’s main event. There are some laughs and jokes between them, but Keith Lee makes it clear to Big E that this doesn’t mean they will be allies at all times. Big E however, tells Keith Lee he welcomes any challenge and looks forward to seeing him soon if he chooses his title.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Match 1: Sami Zayn vs Angel Garza w/Zelina Vega and Humberto Carrillo

Match summary: Sami Zayn comes into this match looking to get a win under his belt after losing out in the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 37. Garza meanwhile, is looking to get The Ungovernables back to winning ways and please an angry Zelina Vega. Angel and Sami show their ability in the ring with Garza trying to outspeed the veteran, but in the end, Sami Zayn manages to plant Angel Garza with the BLUE THUNDER BOMB for the victory.

Winner via pinfall: Sami Zayn (7:38)

Sami Zayn gets to his feet after the match and celebrates the victory on tonight’s Raw, whilst Zelina Vega is watching on from outside the ring and shakes her head in disgust. Angel Garza is checked on by his cousin Humberto Carrillo, but it is clear he is disappointed by the result.

When we return from the commercial break, we cut to KiLynn King backstage, who cuts a commanding presence as Cathy Kelley stops her, looking for an interview with Raw’s newest addition to the Women’s roster. He asks why she attacked Dani Luna last week and the giantess makes it clear that Dani Luna took her moment in the Sensational Sherri Battle Royal, so she knew that she needed to make her pay. KiLynn makes it clear that anyone who gets in her way on Raw is going to meet the same fate.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cesaro would make his way out to the ring next on Raw with a microphone in hand and would quickly make it clear, speaking to the live crowd that after dealing with Andrade, he has his sights set on the Men’s WWE title. Cesaro would talk about his time in The Ungovernables and feeling like he was being pushed to be second fiddle behind whatever Andrade wanted to do, even when he was competing for the WWE title. Cesaro says he has moved on from his past now and is ready to win gold… WHEN DREW MCINTYRE INTERRUPTS HIM!

The crowd also gives Drew McIntyre a loud pop as he walks to the ring and confronts Cesaro. Drew talks about last year, when he fought Cesaro for the WWE title and gives him credit for the fight he gave at London Calling. Drew walks around the ring and makes it clear that, whilst Cesaro gave him one hell of a fight, it is time for Drew to get back into the WWE title picture! Cesaro smiles and shows respect to Drew, but he makes it clear that he will go through anyone to get his hand on the WWE title. Both keep up the friendly exchange as they are interrupted by DOLPH ZIGGLER AND OMOS!

Ziggler does all the talking as usual, telling the pair that they should be behind him in line. Both chuckle and roll their eyes, but Ziggler reminds them he is a two-time World Champion. Cesaro and Drew ask how many years ago they were mocking Ziggler, which angers him, as he gets ready to send his giant OMOS to make them show him some respect… BUT SHEAMUS COMES OUT READY FOR A FIGHT! OMOS and Sheamus back off as the 3 faces stand in the ring before we get confirmation from the commentary team, we will get Drew and Sheamus taking on Ziggler and OMOS after the commercial break.

Match 2: Drew McIntyre and Sheamus vs Dolph Ziggler and OMOS

Match summary: When Raw returns from the commercial break, the action is already underway with Ziggler talking a bunch of trash from the ring apron as his giant dominates the match for him. Ziggler keeps running his mouth and it soon backfires as Sheamus and Drew due to their friendship, work together to turn the tide of the match. Ziggler, as the match comes to a close, is the legal man as Drew and Sheamus take out OMOS with a HUGE DUAL SUPERPLEX! Ziggler then gets clattered by a brutal BROUGE KICK PLUS CLAYMORE COMBO to wipe him out and Drew makes the cover to pick up the victory!

Winners via pinfall: Drew McIntyre and Sheamus (9:59)

The crowd cheers loudly, always enjoying Ziggler getting a bit of comeuppance and The Celtic Connection get to their feet, celebrating the victory. Michael Cole on commentary, points out that Drew picking up the pinfall will also help increase his claim to be next in line for a WWE title shot.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We then cut to the backstage area and see a BACKSTAGE BRAWL AS LIV MORGAN AND RUBY RIOTT ARE FIGHTING WITH MARINA SHAFIR AND NATALYA! Both women are laying into the pair when SHAYNA BASZLER looks to step in to help her fellow MMA Horsewomen. We soon see a swarm of security appear on the scene, breaking the women up, but it seems the former Riott Squad members are not backing down from the MMA Horsewomen!

Match 3: Rhea Ripley vs Mickie James

Match summary: The 2nd hour of Monday Night Raw starts with the Women’s Universal Champion in action as she takes on Mickie James. Alexa Bliss, her challenger at Backlash, sits on the commentary desk and throughout the match, she talks about the size plus power of Rhea but mentions she doesn’t have the experience and cunning that Bliss has. She says like Mickie in the ring, she will be willing to do whatever it takes to defeat Rhea Ripley.

Mickie James, during the match, uses her experience to wear down Rhea Ripley and target the legs, taking away the base from the champion during this match. Rhea struggles with her right leg still feeling the effects of her WrestleMania title win against Shayna Baszler, but she fights through the pain and takes control of the match. Bliss considers interfering but Rhea scares her off before putting away Mickie James by hitting her with THE RIPTIDE!

Winner via pinfall: Rhea Ripley (8:10)

Rhea Ripley gets to her feet, slightly wincing in pain due to the damage done to her right leg during the match by Mickie James. Alexa is asked for her thoughts, but she mouths off at Rhea, promising to take that title from her at Backlash as Raw goes to a commercial break.

When we return from the commercial break, LIO RUSH walks down the backstage hallway, clearly annoyed. He bumps into his old friend and ally, BOBBY LASHLEY, who shoots him a glare. Lio tries, "Hey, Bobby—" but Bobby cuts him off. "You don’t like what The Hurt Business is doing." Lio sighs. "I got outvoted." Bobby smirks. "You used to have a lot to say. What happened?" Lio frowns. "That’s not fair." Bobby brushes past. "I’ve got a match to win." Lio is left standing alone.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut to the ring as Tommaso Ciampa enters with his signature scowl and a microphone. He reminds the crowd of the conspiracy that cost him a win over Drew McIntyre, but admits Wade won’t let him near the golden goose yet. Pacing the ring, he says he wants gold and knows the fastest way to get it is through the Money in the Bank briefcase, calling out Keith Lee.

Soon, Keith Lee comes out with the Money in the Bank briefcase and a microphone. He says he’s not hard to find but objects to Ciampa’s approach. Lee claims Ciampa just makes excuses, saying he acts for his family but truly does everything for himself. This angers Ciampa, who insists his only goal is to provide for his wife and daughter.

He gets right in the face of Keith Lee, who just smirks as he looks at Ciampa down below him. He tells Ciampa that he can see through him and whilst Keith looks for glory, Ciampa has a lust for money. Ciampa says he is not ashamed of who he is and he is happy to prove to Keith Lee how dangerous he can be. Keith Lee says he wants to test himself against the roster before deciding when he will cash in this briefcase and challenges Ciampa to fight him at Backlash, which Ciampa accepts, threatening to derail Keith’s rise before it can truly begin.

Match 4: Grizzled Young Veterans vs Lucha House Party

Match summary: When we return from the commercial break, GYV have their Raw debut match as they take on the luchadores Kalisto and Lince Dorado. Zack Gibson and James Drake throughout the match, try to ground the high-fliers to the mat, stopping them from using their speed to overwhelm the British duo. Gibson and Drake take total control in the closing stages, isolating Lince Dorado alone in the ring as they hit him with TICKET TO RIDE to seal their debut victory!

Winners via pinfall: Grizzled Young Veterans (5:48)

The Grizzled Young Veterans get to their feet getting boos from the live crowd, but the British duo almost revel in the boos, soaking in the heat from the fans before grabbing a pair of microphones. Zack Gibson does most of the talking for the GYV and says tonight was about sending a message to the entire tag team division on Monday Night Raw. He goes into his usual spiel and says they are soon to be the World tag team champions. James Drake takes the microphone and warns any team coming after them will need to grit their teeth…

BRITISH STRONG STYLE MAKE THEIR WAY OUT INTERRUPTING THE GYV! Pete Dunne says they have known these two pillocks for a long time in the UK and they have somehow become even more stupid. The crowd loudly cheers for the very British insult as Tyler Bate tells the duo that they have spoken to Wade Barrett and at Backlash, they are going to kick their asses. The crowd cheers before Bate confirms he will also fight Zack Gibson on Raw next week, bringing the segment to an end.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan are being checked by the medical team when Shotzi Blackheart storms into the room, confronting her tag team partner. She asks what she was doing and Ruby makes it clear she was getting payback on the MMA Horsewomen after they attacked her. Liv fires back saying Shotzi could have helped them, but she makes it clear that this was never their fight and Liv dragged Ruby into this. Ruby says that is not true at all, but Shotzi storms off, leaving Liv shaking her head behind Ruby Riott.

When we return from the commercial break, we cut to Andrade sitting in a chair backstage with a cigar and in a fancy white suit. He looks annoyed before telling the camera he has let his standards slip. He brings up that last year he walked into WrestleMania as Men’s Universal Champion and this year he walks out never being further away from gold. He speaks in Spanish for a little bit before saying it is time he reminds the world and himself who he is.

He gets to his feet and tosses the cigar away, glaring at the camera before carrying on his speech. Next week on Monday Night Raw, he will take on AR Fox one-on-one and start his rise back to gold. He says AR Fox was the last man to fight for the Intercontinental title and beating him will show he should be in title contention over someone like Sami Zayn or Cesaro. A bit of extra venom as he says his former allies name before smiling at the camera, saying he will soon be tranquillo because he will have gold again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Match 5: Nia Jax vs Melina

Match summary: It is confirmed by the commentary team before the bell rings to start the match that Piper Niven is banned from ringside until the match ends. Nia Jax comes into this match looking to hurt Melina and almost make a point to her ally Piper Niven by battering the veteran throughout the match. Nia Jax has the match won, hitting a BANZAI DROP! She doesn’t stop at 1, though and hits 3 more, crushing Melina on the mat before finally making the cover for the win!

Winner via pinfall: Nia Jax (5:39)

As soon as the bell rings, Pipe Niven wastes no time and sprints down the entrance ramp, attacking Nia Jax. They brawl outside the ring with Piper taking control of the brawl. A bunch of security try to stop the giant, but they knock them down with ease before ending up at the top of the entrance ramp and PIPER SENDS BOTH WOMEN CRASHING DOWN BELOW! A “holy shit” chant starts up from the live crowd as the two powerhouses lay down and out.

Match 6: Bobby Lashley vs James Storm

Match summary: The 3rd hour of Raw starts off with Bobby Lashley in action as he takes on James Storm. The commentary team talks about Bobby’s recent interactions with the Hurt Business and his comments towards Lio Rush. James Storm tries to use his veteran experience to bring down the more powerful Bobby Lashley, but Lashley has no intention of going down easily, picking up the win as he avoids a LAST CALL SUPERKICK and hits a SPEAR!

Winner via pinfall: Bobby Lashley (6:03)

Bobby Lashley gets to his feet and celebrates a 2nd victory in a row on Monday Night Raw. He poses for the live crowd as the commentary team says he might be working his way into WWE title contention, as a man in a hoodie appears behind him in the ring. Lashley turns around into an RKO! RANDY ORTON IS BACK ON MONDAY NIGHT RAW! Randy Orton stands over Lashley and soaks in the mixed reaction from the live crowd as Raw goes to a commercial break.

We return from the commercial break as Kevin Patrick approaches Dani Luna whilst she is hanging with Mark Andrews backstage, to see if she has a response to the comments made by KiLynn King earlier tonight. Dani fires back, saying KiLynn is a sore loser and she isn’t going to back down from her, challenging the giantess to a match next week on Raw.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut backstage as the Grizzled Young Veterans are leaving the arena when the World tag team champions The Street Profits confront them. Montez Ford makes it clear they don’t like how the duo takes care of business. Zack Gibson asks what they are going to do about it, pointing at the tag team titles. Dawkins makes it clear that if the GYV earn a shot, they will be happy to give them the smoke. James says they have already earned the shot by winning several tag team titles elsewhere, something the Profits could not do. The Street Profits step forward, but GYV back off saying they will be coming for those belts in due time.

When we return from the commercial break, we see AR Fox working out in the gym, and he seems a little frustrated. He takes a break from his work as he sees Swerve Strickland walking over and shakes his head. Swerve says he hasn’t said a word yet, but AR says he knows exactly what Swerve is going to say. Swerve says AR Fox is only angry because Swerve is right. AR gets to his feet but Strickland doesn’t back down, saying if AR did what it took to win, he would be holding the Intercontinental title right now.

AR Fox counters this saying this would have just made him next in line for another attack by The Hurt Business. Swerve says he would have left him alone, saying he would treat his friend holding the title as business, nothing personal. Fox says he has watched how Swerve handles business and he doesn’t approve. Swerve chuckles telling his friend it is a good thing he doesn’t need AR’s approval and tells him he will soon learn that Swerve’s methods are what is needed to make it to the top.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Match 7: Team Kick vs K2

Match summary: Team Kick looks to compete in tag team action as they take on K2. Both teams show the other team some respect and shake hands with one another. K2 impresses the live crowd, showing not just their agility but also their ability to work together as a tag team, but Team Kick are too good for them to overcome and pick up the win with a DOUBLE SUPERKICK ON KATANA CHANCE!

Winners via pinfall: Team Kick (6:34)

Team Kick gets to their feet with a smile on their faces after earning the victory tonight. They make their way over to K2 and offer a handshake, which the young duo is happy to accept. They leave the ring as Team Kick asks for a microphone. Tegan Nox makes it clear they will be watching SmackDown this week closely as the Women’s tag team titles are on the line. Dakota Kai says they heard what the champions had to say, and they are demanding whoever has the titles comes to Raw next week as they are getting their owed rematch one way or another!

Corbin smirks to himself soaking in the heat, before picking up the guitar SMASHING IT INTO THE HEAD OF ELIAS! The boos are even louder now, but Corbin doesn’t care, looking at the laid-out Elias with a smug smirk.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We then cut to the backstage area as The Hurt Business are shown walking to the ring, led by MVP. Cathy Kelley approaches them looking for an interview and asks if they know what Wade’s announcement is going to be. MVP says his clients know that Wade will make the correct business decision and grant each of his clients the rematch they are owed. He talks about the Hurt Business dominating Raw ever since they were formed and that their losses at WrestleMania are just a speed bump in their domination. MVP then leads his clients towards the ring, ready for the main event of the show!

Before the main event begins, we get word from the commentary team that a number one contender’s match has been added to Backlash for the WWE title between Drew McIntyre and Cesaro!

Main event: The New Day, Keith Lee and The Street Profits vs The Hurt Business

Match summary: This 12-man tag starts off at a fast pace and doesn’t stop, with both teams wanting to get their hands on each other in the ring. In the early stages, it is mostly Kofi and Woods spending time in the ring as they take on Lio Rush and Swerve Strickland. The faces take control of the match as Rush and Swerve are clearly not on the same page as each other during this match but Samoa Joe entrance into the ring changes the tide of the match as The Hurt Business starts to take control, working over Montez Ford.

Montez Ford is dominated in the corner of the ring as The Hurt Business uses their mix of power and speed to keep him cut off from his tag team partners tonight. Each attempt for Montez to tag out if cut off, especially when he looks to go for his usual tag team partners. Montez though, manages to turn the tide and gets free as he brings Keith Lee into the match for the first time as the crowd goes wild! Keith Lee runs wild and takes down all of The Hurt Business before coming face to face with Samoa Joe, the man who eliminated him from King of the Ring last year!

They have a face off in the middle of the ring as the two powerhouses battle with each other and Joe takes control… BIG E TAGS BACK IN! The two men who main evented night 1 of WrestleMania 37 collide with each other as the match further breaks down into chaos until Keith Lee and EJ Nduka end up as the legal men. Both men battle in the middle of the ring, but in the end, Keith Lee shows his immense power getting EJ Nduka up hitting him with the Spirit Bomb for the victory!

Winners via pinfall: The New Day, Keith Lee and The Street Profits (15:53)

The crowd cheers as the faces have defeated The Hurt Business again, but that doesn’t mean the action has stopped, as everyone is brawling inside the ring. Keith Lee and EJ Nduka end up brawling into the crowd, leading The New and Street Profits to brawling with the Hurt Business! A bunch of security and referees make their way out trying to stop it, but they carry on fighting until WADE BARRETT STORMS OUT WITH A MICROPHONE AND TELLS THEM TO STOP THREATENING TO FIRE ALL OF THEM!

He says that earlier tonight, he made it clear that he was not planning to let them carry on brawling and causing chaos on his shows! He knows The Hurt Business wants a rematch for the titles they lost, but this is not how he will allow them to go about it, so he is giving them what they want with a catch. At Backlash, they will all get their rematch but if they lose, they won’t be able to fight for the titles whilst held by New Day and The Street Profits. Joe and Strickland can loudly be heard saying they accept but Wade Barrett has one more thing to add. It will be a winner-takes-all match inside of WAR GAMES!!!

SmackDown Live Recap

Sacramento, California
Golden 1 Centre

April 9th 2021

SmackDown Live would start with its traditional cold open, as Zelina Vega can be seen on the phone with someone. She is discussing business with whoever it is when Dominik Dijakovic walks over to her, wanting to have a chat. Zelina says she is taking care of business and whatever it is, speak to Shinsuke. Dijakovic sighs, annoyed by this, as he comes face-to-face with his fellow Ungovernable. Dijakovic keeps it short and sweet, telling him that he wants to fight Keith alone tonight. Dijakovic walks off as Nakamura glares at him before the opening video for SmackDown Live starts!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HALESTORM – MAYHEM
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SmackDown Live’s opening video comes to an end and what is becoming a common sight, Daniel Bryan makes his way out, leading Alpha Academy to the ring. He has a smile on his face and the Men’s Universal title around his waist as he addresses the fans, soaking in their reactions once again. Bryan says he wants to keep it short and sweet right now because when he became champion, he had one goal in mind: wrestle as much as I can before my career comes to an end!

He lifts the title and says he wants to be a fighting champion, defending it every chance he gets. This could be his last run. Last week, The Bloodline stopped him from defending the title, but tonight he's cleared it with Shawn Michaels—there will be an open challenge for the Universal title in the main event! The crowd erupts, but before Bryan continues…

THE CHURCH OF SETH ROLLINS emerges, booed by the crowd. Seth grabs a mic: Bryan, you’re the type to taint the title. The Universal title deserves a real champion—someone who won’t defend it on a whim. That’s why I spoke to Shawn Michaels. I got my shot at Armageddon.

The boos persist. Seth smirks: I’ll fight whoever’s champion at Armageddon and bring prestige to the title—where it belongs. Bryan fires back: Sounds like you’re scared to face me tonight. Seth shrugs: I’ll take on whoever has the belt at Armageddon. Bryan: If that’s how you see it, fine—but I think you’re just afraid of a real challenge.

Bryan further goads him, saying Seth always talks about being the best and a god, but when it is time to prove it… NATHAN FRAZER TAKES THE MICROPHONE! He tells Bryan to show some respect to Seth Rollins and says he will accept his open challenge later tonight. Seth looks angry at first but smiles shortly after saying his disciple will help bring that title out of the darkness into the light, saying before long the Church will save the Men’s Universal title!

When we return from the commercial break, Seth is walking through the back and says he has some plans to prepare, signalling for The Authors of Pain to follow him. They nod, leaving Karrion Kross alone to talk to Nathan Frazer. The devil says his actions were impulsive and could have angered their leader. Nathan apologizes and says he was just looking to defend God's honor. We soon hear laughter as Damian Priest and Gran Metalik walk into the shot.

Kross asks them what they were laughing about but Priest makes it clear that they weren’t even focusing on them. Nathan tells them to show some respect prompting a rant in Spanish by Gran Metalik. Kross asks him what he said and Priest said he was telling Kross to stop being so paranoid. Kross steps forward ready for a fight, but Priest blocks him. Karrion tells Priest that he wants Metalik in the ring next week and walks off, leaving Priest to look at Metalik who shrugs.

Match 1: Jinny w/Amale vs Charli Evans w/Millie McKenzie

Match summary: Jinny looks to get back on track after the loss at WrestleMania 37 to Belair and Vanessa Hudgens as she takes on Charli Evans. Both women have their tag team partners at ringside, but Jinny manages to pick up the win using a can of hairspray as Amale distracts the referee!

Winner via pinfall: Jinny (4:02)

The House of Couture are quick to flee up the entrance ramp after the match, whilst Millie McKenzie slides into the ring and checks on Charli Evans to make sure she is ok.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut to the backstage area as Kayla Braxton looks to interview Carmella. She asks how she is feeling coming off the loss at WrestleMania 37 in the Money in the Bank ladder match. Carmella says she is disappointed to have come up short, but she plans on bouncing back and fighting her way back into title contention. This is cut short by Franky Monet pointing at Carmella and calling her callous, saying her ability to just move on after what happened to Dana is shocking. Carmella is a little sympathetic but says accidents happen. This prompts Franky to challenge Carmella to a match next week to test that theory.

When we return from the commercial break, we can see Naomi and Bianca Belair sitting in Shawn Michaels’s office. He thanks both women for coming and says he called them both in here as he wanted to confirm with the pair of them on next week’s SmackDown, they will be taking each other on in a number one contender’s match for a title shot at Armageddon. Both women smile at Shawn’s statement and make it clear they feel they are the ones going to Armageddon, both feeling due a WWE Women’s title shot.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We next cut back to the ring, but a familiar theme song plays as we cut to inside the Firefly Funhouse! Bray Wyatt welcomes us back and says it has been a long while before making a joke about being renewed for another season! He does his usual wacky shenanigans inside the fun house and reintroduces the puppets for anyone who might have forgotten about them while he has been away. Mercy the buzzard then asks him about Kevin Owens and the tone changes.

He resembles a darker tone and his eyes shift, glaring at the buzzard. We see clips of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn winning the WWE tag team titles from the War Raiders, leading to them turning on Bray Wyatt. Bray snaps out and has a big smile on his face, saying he sees a man trying to change and he just wants to help our friend find himself. Bray does a twisted grin and tilts his head as he waves to the camera before the Fiend flashes on screen with the segment coming to a close.

Match 2: WWE Women’s tag team titles match: Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection © vs Emma and Toni Storm

Match summary: The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection comes into the match against the NXT tag team, acting slightly cockier than they have in the past, but still get cheers from the live crowd. Toni Storm gets to show off her skill in the ring and dazzles the crowd with an almost timeless quality. Emma also reminds the crowds why she was a big part of the initial Women’s Revolution. The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection struggles at times, but in the end, Sasha Banks hits a backstabber to Emma whilst Bayley keeps Toni Storm away, hitting her with the Roseplant!

Winners via pinfall and still WWE Women’s tag team champions: Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection (8:07)

The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection get back to their feet and lift their WWE Women’s tag team titles, celebrating their victory over the Aussie duo tonight. The commentary team is full of praise for the champions but also makes note that there was no cheating from Bayley this time out and wonders if they will answer Team Kick’s challenge to appear on Raw next week!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut backstage as Byron Saxton approaches an angry Kevin Owens, who is pacing up and down looking furious. Byron is wary as he asks Kevin for his thoughts on the Firefly Funhouse segment we have just seen. Kevin tells Byron he has nothing to worry about because he isn’t Bray Wyatt (this still doesn’t ease the interviewer’s nerves). Kevin says he knew Bray’s response was going to be a bunch of riddles, but to pretend to be a kid’s TV host… Owens shakes his head and makes it clear he wants Bray in the ring for a fight next week!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We then cut to the gym backstage, where Daniel Garcia can be seen practicing his grappling with Kurt Angle, his mentor from Alpha Academy. Garcia is giving a good account of himself with Daniel Bryan, Chad Gable and Buddy Murphy sitting on a bench watching them. Kayla Braxton soon appears, looking for an interview, as she asks Daniel Bryan how he feels about fighting Nathan Frazer later that night. Bryan smiles and says this is exactly the kind of superstar that he wants to answer his challenge.

He says he can see the mistake Seth Rollins is making in guiding and developing Nathan Frazer; he wants to help the young man see where he should be going by fighting in the ring. Buddy chimes in the same way I learned. Kayla nods in agreement and asks him about the fact that he pinned one half of the WWE tag team champions. Buddy says he was throwing out a challenge right now with his new friend, Chad Gable. The former 2-time US Champion nods and says he will be glad to get some payback on the Bloodline as SmackDown goes to a commercial break.

Match 3: Keith Lee vs Dominik Dijakovic

Match summary: The 2nd hour of SmackDown starts with these two men making their entrance and Corey Graves hypes this match up, saying these two men have gone to war up and down the country. Beth Phoenix brings up their quarter-final in last year’s King of the Ring as well. In the first couple of minutes of this match, both men take it slowly as they are so familiar with each other and try to see who will make a mistake first, leading to a few tests of strength.

Dijakovic gets annoyed as he struggles to gain the upper hand on Keith Lee, but catches him by surprise by SPRINGBOARDING OFF THE MIDDLE ROPE WITH A CROSSBODY! From there, the match goes at a fast pace with both men seemingly going out of the way to one-up each other with high-flying moves as these two giants do things no big man should be able to do. The crowd starts to get behind them both but they still overall favour Keith Lee.

As the match starts to reach its conclusion, Dominik Dijakovic is throwing everything he can think of at Keith Lee, but he can’t bring his frenemy down! Dijakovic ends up on the top rope, ready to dive off again but KEITH LEE MEETS HIM UP TOP AND HITS A TOP ROPE SPAINISH FLY! Keith makes the cover but Dijakovic kicks out! Keith sighs before scooping Dijakovic up off the mat, placing him on his shoulders before planting him with BIG BANG CATASTROPHE! Keith Lee makes the cover and picks up the win!

Winner via pinfall: Keith Lee (14:23)

Keith Lee gets to his feet and lifts his Money in the Bank briefcase in the air, celebrating a hard-fought victory on tonight’s SmackDown. The commentary team is quick to put both men over before we see Dominik Dijakovic slowly rising to his feet. The two men share a look before Keith Lee offers his hand. Dijakovic takes a few seconds before he shakes hands with Keith Lee. The crowd applauds both men in the middle of the ring as the show goes to a commercial break.

We return from the commercial break to see Deonna Purrazzo once again sitting at a fancy table with candles all around her and a smug look on her face. She takes a sip of her wine and says she has been taking her time to study the competition on SmackDown. Deonna takes her time to savour the wine before looking at the camera with a slight smirk and says she is not impressed. She says she will be arriving in 2 weeks and she will show the entire roster how things are done.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We next cut to Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose, who are talking to each other about Mandy’s date with Otis Dozovic. Mandy is really excited and says she is looking forward to a second date, which gets a smile from Sonya. She says maybe now is the time to ask him and dips out as Otis walks into the room! He is a bit nervous and says it is good to see his peach again. He is about to ask about the second date when his phone rings and it shows TUCKY on it! Mandy looks at it and tells him to answer it before giving him a kiss on the cheek and walking off. Otis is head over heels, but soon snaps out of it and answers the phone to his friend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut back to the ring as The Bloodline make their way out, but noticeably the male contingent is missing one man: Roman Reigns. The rest of the group that is out here however, is draped in gold as Jacob Fatu leads the way with his United States title and The Usos lead the way with their WWE tag team titles. The trio gets into the ring, getting loud boos as Jey Uso taunts the crowd to start saying he knows they want to see Roman tonight, but he ain’t here getting loud cheers instead.

Jimmy Uso tells them to show respect to the Tribal Chief but instead, the fans mock the fact that Roman tapped out at WrestleMania! Jacob tells the crowd to shut up or he is going to start crippling more of his favourite wrestlers! Loud boos from the crowd as Jey says that is better and he says some people feel like they can talk smack with the Chief on vacation. Jimmy confirms they will accept Buddy Murphy and Chad Gable’s challenge to a tag team title match next week. Jacob then adds that when they are done with them, they are going to join Matt Riddle and…

BRAUN STROWMAN MAKES HIS RETURN TO A HUGE POP! Braun Strowman does not waste any time as The Usos try to sprint out to stop him… BUT HE BOWLS THEM OVER WITH A DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE! He gets to the right and starts to brawl with Jacob Fatu as the two monsters collide. Braun Strowman is in control and lays a beating on Fatu, the first we have ever really seen to Jacob… THE USOS GRABS HIS LEG DISTRACTING HIM!

That allows Fatu to turn the tide with a cheap shot, but soon REY MYSTERIO AND OTIS DOZOVIC RUN OUT ATTACKING THE USOS! They take care of the tag team champions and Braun soon sends Jacob Fatu over the top rope. Braun dares Jacob to get back into the ring BUT THE USOS STOP HIM AND TELL HIM TO RETREAT! Jacob doesn’t want to back down from a fight, but Jimmy’s words prevail as The Bloodline head up the entrance ramp, leaving the faces in the ring standing tall!

When we come back from the commercial break, Billie Kay is in the ring with another sign and this time it reads “Ride or die, Peyton is my guy”. She stands in the ring as the fans boo her for the most part (a few are cheering her due to her goofiness). She complains about being laid out by Molly Holly at WrestleMania and demands more respect from the live crowd when she is beaten by her opponent, Mercedes Martinez! Mercedes keeps it short, saying she came to SmackDown to fight, not to talk and demands Billie get this under way knocking her down to the mat before the referee calls for the bell to get this match underway!

Match 4: Billie Kay vs Mercedes Martinez

Match summary: Mercedes wastes no time in this match staying in control from start to finish before making Billie Kay tap out in THE BRASS CITY SLEEPER (Surfboard dragon sleeper)!

Winner via submission: Mercedes Martinez (1:13)

The crowd cheers for Mercedes Martinez as the commentary team confirms she is now a member of the SmackDown Live roster. The celebrations carry on in the ring as Billie licks her wounds and we cut elsewhere backstage.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taynara Conti is walking through the backstage area with the WWE Women’s title on her shoulder and a smile on her face. She is stopped for an interview by Byron Saxton, who asks for her thoughts on potentially facing either Naomi or Bianca Belair at Armageddon in her second WWE Women’s title defence. Conti says she is ready to fight any challengers but if she had to pick one person to fight, she is rooting for Belair as she feels she owes Belair a title shot the most.

Ember Moon storms into the interview full of anger and slaps her briefcase, saying Conti has forgotten what is currently in Ember’s hands! Conti makes it clear she hasn’t forgotten anything but Ember says Belair doesn’t deserve anything and the fact she is getting the number one contender’s match over is disgraceful! Conti looks at Ember and taps the briefcase saying any time Ember wants a shot, she knows what she can do. Ember shakes her head and makes it clear; it will be cashed in on her terms, no one else’s.

When we returned from the commercial break, we cut to AJ Styles standing with Big Cass. AJ says The O.C. thought they would all turn their back on him but AJ knew that Big Cass would have his back. Cass carries on saying AJ brought him into the O.C. and he was the only one to make sure he was OK after Fatu’s attack. He says loyalty is something you can’t teach, but he can sure shove his 7-foot boot up Jordan Devlin’s ass next week on SmackDown!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We then cut elsewhere backstage as Rey Mysterio and Otis Dozovic are walking through the backstage area, talking to each other. They are both in good spirits after getting a small measure of payback on The Usos tonight. Rey then gets a buzz on his phone and pulls it out, smiling. He tells Otis that his son is coming back next week and he plans on taking the tag team titles from The Usos. Otis smiles and responds that they will have to get behind him and Tucky as his best friend returns next week too. Rey takes a moment before saying may the best team win, leading to a tense handshake for the time being.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We then cut to The O.C. who are hanging out inside their own clubhouse, with Finn Balor mocking Big Cass and saying his loyalty is misplaced. Finn Balor makes it clear that if Big Cass wants to stand by AJ Styles, he can fall with AJ Styles and promises they will destroy the 7-footer! Jordan Devlin steps forward and accepts the challenge, saying he will show the world next week what the Irish Ace is all about!

When we return from the final commercial break of the evening, we cut to the Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection sitting backstage in their locker room holding the tag team titles. Sasha Banks says it is another victory for them and proves they are at the top of the tag team division for a reason. Bayley speaks next making it clear that they proved by beating Toni Storm and Emma tonight that they don’t need to cheat to win, she proved to herself they haven’t lost a step. Banks says she never thought she did but Bayley ignores it, confirming the tag team champions will be going to Raw and confronting Team Kick!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Main event: Men’s Universal title match: Daniel Bryan © w/Alpha Academy vs Nathan Frazer w/The Church of Seth Rollins

Match summary: Daniel Bryan and Nathan Frazer are joined by their allies at ringside, leaving a lot of bodies outside the ring to watch the match. Early on Daniel Bryan shows up the young British superstar, grounding him and starting to work him over with a series of submissions. Outside the ring, we see Seth Rollins furious and tells his protégé to change it up. Frazer listens to his mentor and manages to escape from a hold by raking the eyes of Bryan as he turns the tide, using his agility and pace to overwhelm Bryan, sending him out of the ring.

Bryan talks to Angle outside for a bit of guidance, but FRAZER RUNS THE ROPES AND WIPES OUT EVERYONE OUTSIDE! Frazer wows the crowd over the next few minutes, showing off his insane pace and keeping Bryan on the back foot… until Bryan turns the tide with a dragon screw leg whip. Bryan’s plan for the rest of the match becomes clear, going after the right leg of Frazer and looks to cut off the pace of the challenger so he can put him away.

Frazer fights through the pain and keeps up with Bryan, catching him off-guard as well as stunning a few fans with how well he is hanging with the Universal Champion. However as the match approaches the closing stages, he needs help from outside of the ring by The Church of Seth Rollins… AS DAMIAN PRIEST AND GRAN METALIK ALSO RUN OUT TO HELP WITH THE NUMBERS GAME! The Alpha Academy members with Priest and Metalik, brawl with Seth and his Church members outside of the ring into the crowd, leaving Frazer and Bryan alone to finish the match.

Frazer takes advantage of the distraction outside the ring and plants Bryan with a PEDIGREE INTO A CURB STOMP! Shades of his mentor as Frazer winces in pain and can’t make the cover, instead looking to the corner of the ring as he climbs to the top rope. He lines up Daniel Bryan and gets ready to fly off the top, looking to go for the PHOENIX SPLASH… BRYAN GETS HIS KNEES UP AND THEN LOCKS IN THE HEEL HOOK! Bryan wrenches the hold tight in the middle of the ring and forces Frazer to tap out!

Winner via submission and still Men’s Universal Champion: Daniel Bryan (14:09)

Daniel Bryan lets go of the right leg of Nathan Frazer once the bell rings, getting back to his feet and celebrating as he retains the Men’s Universal title! The commentary team highlights Daniel Bryan's heart and willingness to take on all challengers. The celebrations carry on in the ring before we cut backstage to see Jey Uso on the phone with Roman’s special counsel. He nods and ends the call, giving instructions to Jimmy, saying to keep an eye on Bryan and inform the special counsel will inform them the right time to strike.

Yeah Seth may want the WWE Universal Championship back and or The Church of Rollins are still targeting that title but who else is? The Bloodline as they are clearly not done with the WWE Universal Champion Daniel Bryan as Reigns obviously will face either Bryan or Rollins depending on whoever wins

Lashley vs Orton as a feud I love it

6 on 6 inside War Games...Winner Takes All main event...if The Hurt Business loses inside War Games they can't challenge for all the titles again as long as The New Day and company are Champions but if they win...they get their titles back...high stakes

Naomi being tasked with bringing gold to The Bloodline...I love it personally

War Games being announced is a huge deal, and I think it fits in well with the story. Losing a big match like that, could well be the end of The Hurt Business, at least in its current form, which is what I expect to happen. But this has been booked well so far, and is working.

Keith Lee's involvement here and then in the main event and then in ANOTHER in ring segment with Ciampa did feel like a bit of over exposure though, to be honest. Obviously as MITB, he's in line for a push, but yeah, this just felt like a lot. I will say across this and then his win over Dijakovic on SD, he has had a very successful week.

On the SD side of things, I'm intrigued by the tag title match. I'm not sure which way you would go but wouldn't surprise me if Usos lose, showing more instability in The Bloodline without Roman. I've enjoyed the booking of The Bloodline post Mania so far.

Women's title situation is working to with Belair/Naomi ready to battle it out, but Athena still lurking. Whole scene just feels so fresh with Conti as champ to.

And main event of SD was awesome. Perfect way to further an angle, put on compelling television, give a champ a solid title defense, and give a young up and comer a huge rub by hanging in for 14 mins. Good job.

A solid batch of shows here as always.

HOUSE OF MEMORIES - P!ATD

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday Night Raw starts off this week with The Miz TV set in the ring and The Miz welcomes the fans, getting an alright pop from the crowd. He confirmed that there is no contact allowed between his guests before bringing out The New Day, The Street Profits and The Hurt Business. The two groups make it to the ring and take a seat on the movie set chairs, with the tension between them all being clear for everyone to see as Miz looks to get Miz TV underway.

Miz starts the segment by asking The Hurt Business why they have been going about business the way they have since WrestleMania. MVP makes it clear that they know business is not booming right now because all of their gold is around the waist of The New Day and The Street Profits. MVP makes it clear to make it to the top of this business, sometimes you need to be slightly ruthless and be ready to go to war with anyone who gets in your way.

The New Day says they beat the Hurt Business fair and square in the ring, showing that friendship is more powerful than business. Swerve says he will show them that friendship cannot survive war, especially when it gets tough. Montez gets to his feet and says Swerve can talk a big game, but how about later tonight, he puts his money where his mouth is. Swerve smirks and says why don’t they raise the stakes. He challenges Montez to meet him later tonight and the winner gets his team the advantage inside of War Games!

Montez says he is on with the rest of his team nodding. Both men stare each other down, but Miz is quick to remind the groups of the no contact rule when Samoa Joe tells Miz they are not stupid and they heard him. He makes it clear that he wants a fight of his own and Angelo Dawkins steps up, saying he’ll fight Joe. Miz then tells us he has gotten word from Wade Barrett, making those matches official before confirming the New Day will take on Rush, Cedric and Benjamin in trios action as well, with the two groups eager to fight each other.

When we return from the commercial break, Wade Barrett is inside his office as Cathy Kelly comes in for an interview. She asks him if what The Miz said is true and Wade confirms the matches set up in the previous segment. He then tells Cathy he has one more match to sign off on for next week, as Piper Niven and Nia Jax will collide in a last woman standing match on Raw next week!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Match 1: Zack Gibson w/James Drake vs Tyler Bate w/Pete Dunne

Match summary:
Zack Gibson and Tyler Bate start the match off by locking up with each other as they try to take each other down to the mat. Both of their seconds stand at ringside cheering their partner on, with commentary wondering if Dunne or Drake will play a factor in this match. Zack spends a lot of the match targeting the right arm of Bate, looking to set him up for the Shankly Gates, but it also has the effect of taking away a lot of Bate’s power game!

Bate does his best to fight back and takes control with a series of European uppercuts using his non-dominant hand but Zack Gibson is crafty and relentless with no corner he isn’t willing to take. In the closing stages of the match, James Drake distracts the referee, allowing Zack Gibson to take off the turnbuckle pad. Dunne tries to get the referee’s attention but before he notices, Zack sends Tyler’s right arm into the turnbuckle before locking in the Shankly Gates to force a tap out from Tyler!

Winner via submission: Zack Gibson (8:17)

Zack Gibson gloats and has a smirk on his face, celebrating his victory tonight over Tyler Bate. The crowd boos him as he retreats up the entrance ramp with James Drake and gloats to the live crowd, winding the fans up even further. Pete Dunne checks on his tag team partner before confirming that Pete Dunne will fight James Drake on next week’s Raw!

When we return from the commercial break, we cut to the We Riots locker room as we can see Ruby Riott and Shotzi Blackheart sitting in their locker room backstage. We seem to join them mid-argument as Shotzi makes it clear she doesn’t even want to talk about teaming with Liv Morgan. Ruby tries to change her mind and points out the issues with MMA Horsewomen, who have been a huge problem for the women’s division, but Shotzi makes it clear she feels Ruby instigated the issues with them and she doesn’t want to be a part of it. Ruby tells her to think about it, but she plans to help Liv and wants Shotzi to join them.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut back to the ring as Team Kick makes their way out with a microphone in hand each. They get a decent pop from the fans before making it clear that they have been very patient, but after the way they lost at WrestleMania 37, they feel they are owed a rematch for the Women’s tag team titles and don’t plan on waiting. Luckily for them, the Boss ‘N Hug Connection doesn’t make them wait too long themselves and the tag team champions make their way out to mostly cheers from the live crowd.

Bayley starts by telling Team Kick that what she did was in the heat of the moment and she had a lapse in judgment where she worried, they were no longer the best team in the division. Sasha Banks reminds us of their loss at WrestleMania 35, which caused them to collapse as a team once before and she knows that’s why Bayley was willing to break her code to keep these titles around their waist. Bayley says she is sorry for what she did and that’s why she wants to offer Team Kick a rematch at Backlash. The crowd cheers excitedly at the prospect of seeing the two top women’s tag teams colliding one more time at Backlash.

Dakota says she appreciates the apology, but if there is any funny business… Banks cuts in and makes it clear that Bayley is sorry about doing what was needed, but she refuses to make any apologies, getting a few boos from the crowd. She is willing to do whatever it takes to win and therefore, she spoke to Wade making the match a tornado tag no disqualification match, so Team Kick has no excuses. Tegan says they are on, but she wants Bayley in the ring one-on-one. Bayley is a bit confused but Banks accepts, promising the champs will kick their ass, bringing the promo segment to an end!

Match 2: Dani Luna vs KiLynn King

Match summary:
When we return from the commercial break, Dani Luna looks to get some revenge on KiLynn King after her attack last week. Early on in the match, King overpowers Dani Luna and uses her superior size to toss the Brit around the ring. Dani shows her fight and actually catches KiLynn out with her power, tossing around King. In the end though, King overpowers Dani Luna before putting her away with the KING’S CURSE (Pumphandle suplex facebuster)!

Winner via pinfall: KiLynn King (5:48)

KiLynn King gets to her feet with a slight smirk on her face, whilst Dani Luna winces in pain on the mat. She soaks in the boos from the live crowd and celebrates her first victory on Monday Night Raw!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut to the backstage area as Baron Corbin stands in front of the camera and laughs to himself, saying last week showed why Elias should have never bothered coming back to the ring. He says he proved that Elias isn’t good enough and if he tried to step up to him again, he would… ELIAS SMASHES HIM WITH A GUITAR! Elias jumps onto Corbin as he lays into him with a series of punches, only being stopped by a swarm of security as Raw goes to a commercial break.

Match 3: Cesaro vs Dolph Ziggler w/OMOS

Match summary:
The 2nd hour starts with Cesaro taking on former World Champion Dolph Ziggler. Drew McIntyre takes a seat on commentary and is very respectful when it comes to talking about his opponent at Backlash, whilst he is less than positive about his former tag team partner, Dolph Ziggler. OMOS is a towering presence outside the ring, but early on in the match, Cesaro dominates the smaller Ziggler, forcing the former World Champion to need help from OMOS to get back into the match.

Drew, whilst on commentary comments that this is who Dolph Ziggler has been for years and has always wanted a heavy to do his dirty work, whether it was him or Big E or now OMOS. Ziggler looks to press the advantage given to him by the giant outside the ring, but Cesaro once again proves to be too strong for Ziggler and puts him down to the mat with SWISS DEATH! OMOS tries to get involved one more time but this time Drew appears and does a CLAYMORE OFF THE APRON TO WIPE OUT OMOS! This leaves Cesaro alone in the ring to scoop Ziggler up and hit him with the RICOLA BOMB for the win!

Winner via pinfall: Cesaro (13:11)

Cesaro gets to his feet, getting a loud pop from the fans, who are now really starting to get behind the Swiss Superman. Drew McIntyre gets into the ring as the two men who will collide at Backlash and they give each other a nod of respect. Whilst outside the ring, Dolph Ziggler talks a bunch of trash with OMOS towering behind him.

When we returned from the commercial break, we cut to inside The New Day and Street Profits locker room. The two teams are sat down deep in thought for the moment, with Montez Ford breaking the silence to speak first. He says tonight he will represent all of them and bring the smoke to the ring. Angelo hypes his tag team partner up as Big E gets to his feet and nods telling Montez he has every faith in him that he is going to go out there and show Swerve what’s up.

Kofi tells Montez to be careful because Swerve is crafty and will try to use every trick in the book to cheat. Montez nods and takes everything that Kofi is saying on board. Angelo steps forward, saying he knows his partner has got it tonight, but Woods and Big E say both of them have a tough test ahead of them when they step into the ring. Big E especially puts over how tough Samoa Joe is and the beating he gave him at WrestleMania.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We then cut to the ring as Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott both make their way out to the ring with microphones in hand. The commentary team nods that the duo seems to be way more on the same page than they have been for a couple of years. Both women make it clear that they haven’t quite worked out all of the issues between themselves and that this might be a work in progress, but they make it clear they both now have a mutual enemy for them to fight in the MMA Horsewomen!

Liv says she still needs to see Ruby show she can be trusted, but she is willing to give her a chance to show it at Backlash as they are challenging all 3 members of the MMA Horsewomen to a fight. Ruby says she has meant everything she has said and will gladly fight with Liv, whether Shotzi wants to help or not. Liv looks a bit wary and turns to Ruby, making it clear that whilst she is happy to attempt to trust Ruby, she doesn’t trust Shotzi at all. Ruby looks to respond, but they are soon interrupted by the MMA Horsewomen!

Shayna Baszler leads the way for the trio and tells the Riott Squad that she loves a good little reunion. Shayna says what she loves most about seeing them is the chance to break them apart and rip the joy from the fans’ hearts! Shayna says if these two women want to end their careers by trying to take on the MMA Horsewomen 3 on 2, that is their choice, but they will take pleasure in ending their careers. Liv Morgan leans on the ropes and tells them to try it bitches, and tosses the microphone down to loud cheers from the crowd.

Shayna looks furious before signalling to Marina and Natalya that they are heading to the ring. Liv looks at Ruby, who nods and they get ready for a fight! Initially the duo is able to fend off Natalya and Marina, but once Shayna enters the ring, the numbers game is too much for The Riott Squad until SHOTZI BLACKHEART RUNS OUT TO MAKE THE SAVE! The crowd gives her quite a decent reaction as she has a kendo stick in hand and helps to clear the ring. She turns to Ruby giving her a nod, but the look to Liv is much less friendly as we go to a commercial break.

When we return from the commercial break, we can see Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott chatting to each other about what just happened. Shotzi Blackheart soon joins them and Ruby hugs her, thanking her for the help just now. Shotzi is a bit cold though and says she did it for the We Riotts, not the Riott Squad before glaring at Liv and walking off as Liv rolls her eyes. The commentary team then added that next week on Raw, Shayna Baszler will take on Shotzi Blackheart and the Riott Squad will fight Marina Shafir and Natalya.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Match 4: Keith Lee vs Humberto Carrillo w/Angel Garza and Zelina Vega

Match summary:
Keith Lee starts this match by playing to the crowd which winds up The Ungovernables inside and outside the ring. The commentary team notes that Andrade once again is not at ringside, likely preparing for his match with AF Fox later tonight. Humberto tries his best to use his speed and agility to overcome Mr. Money in the Bank but Keith Lee swats him away with ease. Nothing Humberto does works and, in the end, Keith Lee hits the SPIRIT BOMB to pick up another win on Raw!

Winner via pinfall: Keith Lee (4:24)

Keith Lee gets to his feet and has a huge smile on his face as his dominance since coming to Raw and SmackDown is apparent for all to see! Zelina Vega talks to Humberto outside the ring and checks on her client whilst Angel Garza slides into the ring, getting into the face of Keith Lee! Garza talks trash to Keith Lee who looks unfazed but he doesn’t see TOMMASO CIAMPA ATTACK HIM FROM BEHIND USING KEITH’S OWN MONEY IN THE BANK BRIEFCASE!

Loud boos from the crowd as Tommaso Ciampa stands over Keith Lee and lays into him with a series of punches to the head, whilst Zelina nods, signalling for Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo to head to the back. Ciampa grabs hold of Keith Lee, lifting him up before hitting him with a DDT ONTO THE MONEY IN THE BANK BRIEFCASE TO LOUD BOOS FROM THE CROWD! When we return from the commercial break, Tommaso Ciampa walks through the back with a smile on his face as he bumps into all of The Ungovernables, including Andrade Cien Almas. Andrade is stretching ready for his match, up next as Ciampa confirms he will be sending the money to Zelina shortly and thanks her for the help tonight. Zelina says it's always their pleasure if the money is right when Sami Zayn walks into the shot, asking if Andrade is proud of this.

Andrade just raises his eyebrow and tells Sami it is business before saying he has a match to win and leaves the area. Sami calls him a coward, leading to Angle confronting him. Ilja Dragunov soon walks into the scene, asking if there is a problem. Humberto calls him a traitor and tells him there could be one soon. Before a fight can kick off however, Sheamus walks up asking if some fellas were looking for a scrap. Zelina shakes her head, saying we will do this on our own terms, no one else’s ending the segment.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Match 5: Andrade Cien Almas vs AR Fox

Match summary:
AR Fox comes into this match fired up and it catches Andrade off-guard very early on. Andrade this time though, doesn’t show frustration and stays calm, looking to weather the storm from the veteran. It is actually AR Fox who shows signs of frustration during the match and this allows Andrade to take total control of the match, laying into him with a series of brutal elbows before planting him with the HAMMERLOCK DDT! Andrade made the cover and picked up the win!

Winner via pinfall: Andrade Cien Almas (5:35)

Andrade Cien Almas gets back to his feet with a smile on his face as the commentary team says his performance tonight feels like a return to form for the former Universal Champion. AR Fox meanwhile, slams the ring apron in frustration and storms off, unhappy with another big loss on Raw.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut backstage as Keith Lee came out of the medical room, holding the back of his head. For the first time since he started appearing on Raw and SmackDown, he looks pissed off. He is stopped for an interview by Kevin Patrick. He asks how Keith Lee is feeling after Ciampa’s attack earlier tonight. He says he feels in pain, but he has had worse and promises payback next week. Kevin asks him how he plans to get payback on Ciampa, which leads to a slight smirk from Keith Lee.

Keith tells Kevin that next week, he will team up with Sheamus, Ilja Dragunov, and Sami Zayn to take on The Ungovernables and Tommaso Ciampa. Kevin asks him about Dominik Dijakovic, noting he is a member of the group on SmackDown when Samoa Joe walks past with MVP by his side. The two men have a stare down with Joe smirking, telling Keith to hold onto that briefcase tight because he is getting his WWE title back and will see him soon. Keith smirks, saying he will be seeing Joe very soon since he hasn’t forgotten King of the Ring. Joe walks off and heads to the ring as the 2nd hour of Raw comes to an end.

Match 6: Angelo Dawkins vs Samoa Joe w/MVP

Match summary:
Dawkins comes into this match with the commentary team saying he has always been unfairly viewed as the second to Montez Ford and this match is a huge chance to prove what he can do as a singles wrestler. Joe and Dawkins battle for control in the opening stages of the match, with Joe taking control even though Dawkins gives Joe a run for his money. Joe looks for early submissions and tries to get the Coquina Clutch locked in but Dawkins fights out of it, sending Joe back several times.

Dawkins fires back at Joe and catches him off-guard with MVP outside the ring, noticeably looking worried by the performance from Angelo. Dawkins even catches Joe out with a POUNCE and heads up top, hitting him with a DIVING BLOCKBUSTER! Dawkins hooks the leg but Joe kicks out. Dawkins tries to get him up, but Joe counters with a POWERBOMB! From there, Joe hoists him up and makes sure this time to lock in the COQUINA CLUTCH tight for the tap-out win!

Winner via submission: Samoa Joe (7:02)

Samoa Joe gets back to his feet as he tosses Angelo Dawkins to the mat and celebrates the victory tonight over one-half of the World tag team champions. Dawkins gets back to his feet using the ropes and coughs slightly after being in the clutch. Joe looks over at him as Dawkins gets ready for even more of a fight, but Joe just gives him a nod of respect and leaves the ring.

When we return from the commercial break, we see Samoa Joe and MVP walking back into The Hurt Business locker room, where all of them are sitting around the room minus Swerve Strickland and Lio Rush, who seem to be mid-argument. MVP steps in between the two men and asks what the drama is. Lio says Swerve told him that he needs to step up inside of War Games. MVP turns to Swerve, who shrugs and makes it clear he feels Lio is going to be the weak link within the team.

Lio looks to step forward but Joe steps in to calm it down as he glares at Swerve, reminding them that they all lost at WrestleMania. Swerve doesn’t say a word but Joe makes it clear that if they are going to step into War Games, they need to be on the same page or else! There is still some tension but MVP makes it clear Joe is right and there will be consequences if they don’t walk out of Backlash with the titles. Everyone nods as the camera zooms in over Lio’s shoulder to see him texting Bobby Lashley before we cut to the ring.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Randy Orton makes his way out, getting a loud mixed reaction from the live crowd. The commentary team mentions we haven’t seen him for months and speculates on why he attacked Bobby Lashley upon his return to Monday Night Raw. Orton gets into the ring with a microphone in hand and taunts the fans, asking if they missed him before saying he never missed them, getting loud boos from the crowd. Randy smirks but it soon turns to a scowl, pointing out he had a plan for WrestleMania this year.

He reminds us that he took out Stone Cold Steve Austin by punting him in the skull! Randy says he was going to finish the job at WrestleMania and take out another legend, but he was forced to take time out. He says he had to sit at home and watch as his career rival, the man he has beaten time and again, John Cena not only took his spot but failed! He says he had to watch and the worst part is he then gets cleared a week later! There is venom in his voice before calming down as he pauses in the middle of the ring.

He says people have been asking why he attacked Lashley, but it is simple. He was going after the biggest and toughest guy around so he could get right back to the top, where he belongs. Orton is ready to end the promo but Bobby Lashley interrupts, saying he was waiting for Orton to finish but now that he has, he is going to kick his ass! Bobby heads to the ring, but Orton is quick to flee into the crowd before telling Lashley that he will meet him in the ring, but he will do it at Backlash, bringing the promo to an end!

Match 7: The New Day vs The Hurt Business (Cedric Alexander, Shelton Benjamin and Lio Rush) w/MVP

Match summary:
When we return from the commercial break, The New Day make their way out and pose with all 3 of their titles to the delight of the live crowd. The Hurt Business makes their way out, led by MVP with Lio Rush walking ahead of his teammates tonight, not in a great mood. Once at ringside, the match starts off at a fast pace with Lio Rush and Xavier Woods having a mini-WrestleMania rematch! The New Day is clearly the unit that works better together as the match goes on!

It takes a distraction from MVP to get The Hurt Business back into the match, as they isolate the Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston and work over him in their corner of the ring as the crowd wills the New Day on to get the hot tag. Eventually, Kofi Kingston escapes and Big E enters the match running wild as he overpowers The Hurt Business. The New Day takes full control and Big E, with Xavier Woods hitting Cedric Alexander with UPUPDOWNDOWN!

Winner via pinfall: The New Day (8:51)

The New Day get to their feet and get loud cheers from the crowd as they celebrate another victory as a trio tonight. Outside the ring, we can see MVP giving his clients a bit of a dressing down, with Lio Rush looking most annoyed before we cut backstage.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We see an annoyed Swerve Strickland watching on a monitor with EJ Nduka standing behind him. He shakes his head before signalling for Nduka to follow him when the duo bump into AR Fox, who is looking angry after his loss to Andrade. Swerve smirks and asks his friend if he is learning his lesson yet. Fox gets pissed off and gets right in Swerve’s face… AS NDUKA GRABS HIM AND PINS HIM AGAINST THE WALL! Swerve tells his friend to ease up and Nduka drops him as Swerve just smiles, leading to the two men walking off.

When we return from the commercial break, Rhea Ripley makes her way out, getting loud cheers from the live crowd. She stands in the ring with her Women’s Universal title around her waist and a big smirk too. She says it feels good to stand atop the Raw Women’s division and above every woman who tries to step up to her. She lifts the title in the air, soaking in the reaction from the fans and says last week was just a taste of what Alexa is going to get when she tries to mess with the nightmare!

Alexa Bliss and Mickie James quickly interrupt the champion, with Alexa Bliss spouting off from the start, saying that Rhea might have beaten Mickie but that’s because her friend is past her prime. Mickie’s eyes widen but she ignores it as Bliss carries on, promising that Rhea is just a flash in the pan, whilst she is permanent and that she has been around the top of this division from the very start! Rhea then dares the two to back up their words right now, ready to kick both their asses!

Mickie James steps forward more than willing for a fight, but Bliss stops her tag team partner and shakes her head. Bliss makes it clear that any fight they take part in will be one on their terms, not the champ’s! Rhea calls them cowards but Bliss says she instead how about they meet in this ring next week if Ripley can find anyone willing to team with her. Mickie takes the microphone to throw in that it is lonely at the top, but Rhea accepts the challenge, even promising to fight them 2 on 1 if she can’t find anyone to end the segment.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut backstage to see Jeff Jarrett and Heath Slater being interviewed by Cathy Kelley. She asked what is next for the two men and Jarrett is full of bluster, promising that he will be leading Heath Slater to gold and talking about his hall of fame career. They are soon interrupted by Rick Boogs, who says he isn’t finished with them yet but Heath makes it clear they are done with him. Jarrett chimes in calling Rick yesterday's news and he better find a partner if he wants to try to step up to them, ending the interview.

Main event: Winner gets the War Games advantage for their team: Montez Ford vs Swerve Strickland

Match summary:
Swerve makes his way out for the main event with a scowl on his face and is noticeably alone as the commentary confirms that both teams are banned from ringside, including MVP. Montez Ford gets loud cheers from the crowd as he makes his way out, even showing off his World tag team title before sprinting to the ring, ready for action. Swerve in the opening couple of minutes is a little cocky, and it allows Montez Ford to catch him out, sending Swerve to the outside of the ring!

Montez doesn’t let up, soaring over the top rope and wiping out Swerve Strickland, soaking in the reaction from the fans in the crowd. Montez grabs hold of Swerve and sends him back into the ring, looking to go for FROM THE HEAVENS EARLY… BUT SWERVE GETS HIS KNEES UP BLOCKING THE MOVE! Swerve goes on the attack as he lays into him with a series of kicks and starts to wear down Montez Ford, revelling in the crowd’s disdain as he does it.

During the match, we cut backstage as we can see New Day and Angelo Dawkins in one locker room watching, whilst The Hurt Business watch in their locker room. Swerve is laying into Montez in vicious fashion, but one half of the World tag team champions refuses to go down easily, pissing the former Intercontinental Champion off! Swerve gets ready to end this match as he heads up top looking for the SWERVE STOMP… MONTEZ AVOIDS IT AND BOUNCES OFF THE ROPES HITTING A TORANDO DDT! Montez sprints to the top rope and lines up Swerve Strickland before hitting FROM THE HEAVENS ONTO SWERVE!

He makes the cover 1 2 SWERVE KICKS OUT! Montez rolls off and pounds the mat, thinking that would be enough, but shakes his head knowing he needs to do more. He grabs hold of Swerve and teases going for a ROCK BOTTOM…SWERVE COUNTERS AND REVERSES IT INTO BIG PRESSURE! Swerve looks at Montez and shakes his head, wanting to make absolutely sure this is done… HOUSE CALL! Swerve hooks the leg and picks up the win, giving the advantage back to The Hurt Business!

Winner via pinfall: Swerve Strickland (12:23)

The boos ring out, but Swerve Strickland doesn’t care, having given his team a huge advantage going into the winner-takes-all War Games match next week at Backlash. HALESTORM – MAYHEM
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the opening video for the show, The Church of Seth Rollins makes their way out, getting loud boos from the crowd. Seth leads the group and even gets Karrion Kross, Nathan Frazer, Scarlett Bordeaux, Akam and Rezar to kneel in front of him in prayer. Seth talks about Nathan’s title match last week and the fact that his young protégé would have brought the Universal title to salvation if not for heathens like Damian Priest, Gran Metalik and the rest of Alpha Academy!

Seth Rollins goes into a rant, saying everything he does is to save the Universal title from the devils who try to hold it and bring it under his light, wanting to save SmackDown and remold it in his vision to save it from a truly dark vision. The speech is about to carry on when Daniel Bryan makes his way out and is joined by the rest of Alpha Academy. Bryan says he was in the back and was reminded why he keeps doing these open challenges. The Universal title should be about fighting not talking!

He confirms that once again, he will be defending his Universal title in an open challenge to a huge pop from the crowd. He even dares Seth to fight him early tonight, but he refuses to loud boos from the crowd. Karrion Kross takes a microphone, making a comment that maybe the devil can slay him for God… BUT SETH TAKES THE MICROPHONE BACK AND SAYS NO! Kross looks annoyed but calms down when Seth whispers something in his ear before saying it is time for the Church to leave… for now.

There is a bit of tension between the groups but not fighting between the groups, as Bryan climbs into the ring and addresses the live crowd, saying that he is willing to take on whoever wants to step up and THE CROWD GOES WILD AS ADAM COLE FROM NXT WALKS OUT! He has a microphone in hand and cuts a short promo about the Undisputed Era being over because it is his Era and tonight, he will win the Universal title to take it back to NXT! Alpha Academy leaves the ring and upon Bryan’s nod, heads to the back as the commentary team confirms the Universal title match will be up next!

Match 1: Men’s Universal title match: Daniel Bryan © vs Adam Cole

Match summary:
When we return from the commercial break, the opening match is underway with Adam Cole being worked over on the mat to the delight of the crowd. Bryan seems to be making a point to target the right leg of Adam Cole as the commentary team points out that the majority of Adam Cole’s best offense, for those who don’t watch NXT, uses his legs and if Bryan can take that away, he neutralizes the main threats Adam Cole can throw at him.

Adam Cole though, is an experienced competitor even at his age and fights back, taking control of the match. He also shows a bit of ruthlessness as he targets the head and neck of Bryan, with the commentary mentioning his history of injuries that have ended Bryan’s career in the past. Adam Cole taunts the fans and does a lot of trash talk during the match, managing to get loud boos from the crowd, but is held back from the damage done to his right leg, meaning he can’t cover straight away after his many superkicks.

Adam Cole stays in control, laying into Bryan but gets caught off as Bryan manages to get Cole in an ankle lock. Adam Cole is in a ton of pain and looks to crawl to the ropes, forcing a break from the hold. Bryan releases the hold but rolls to the ropes across the ring as he lines up Adam Cole, ready to go for the Busaiku knee… COLE COUNTERS WITH A SUPERKICK DROPPING BRYAN! He winces in pain but heads to the corner of the ring and waits for Bryan to get up… PANAMA SUNRISE! Cole makes the cover, but Bryan kicks out at 2!

Adam Cole looks annoyed and slams the mat, knowing this is the biggest match of his career so far. He heads to the ropes and lines up Daniel Bryan, ready to go for the LAST SHOT… BRYAN AVOIDS IT AND HITS A DRAGON SUPLEX BEFORE TRANSITIONING INTO A HEEL HOOK! Bryan wraps his whole body around the right leg of Adam Cole and wrenches it on tight as Adam Cole screams in pain… AND IS FORCED TO TAP OUT DUE TO THE PAIN!

Winner via submission and still Men’s Universal Champion: Daniel Bryan (17:02)

Daniel Bryan lets go of the hold and gets to his feet with a big smile on his face as he is passed the Men’s Universal title and holds it in the air to a huge pop from the live crowd. The commentary team gives Adam Cole credit for his performance tonight and he gets to his feet in the ring, struggling slightly due to the damage done to his right leg… AS DANIEL BRYAN OFFERS HIM HIS HAND FOR A HANDSHAKE! Adam Cole looks at it for a few seconds before shaking his head and leaving the ring to boos from the crowd.

Daniel Bryan shrugs his shoulders and goes back to celebrating his title retention over Adam Cole tonight. He carries on the celebration in the ring until there is a commotion in the ring when SETH ROLLINS CLOBBERS HIM FROM BEHIND! Bryan falls to the mat and drops the title in front of him as Seth runs off the ropes and PLANTS DANIEL BRYAN WITH A CURB STOMP ONTO THE UNIVERSAL TITLE TO LOUD BOOS FROM THE CROWD!

She confirms she will fight Mandy Rose on SmackDown next week and makes a comment that Mandy is too focused on her love life to prepare for someone like her. She finishes the package explaining what a virtuoso is, but it might be better for simple minds to be given a demonstration.

We cut back to the ring as Braun Strowman stomps out with a microphone in hand and a scowl on his face. He steps into the ring, not wasting any time saying he missed WrestleMania 37 and now wants Jacob Fatu to come get these hands, promising to tear the United States title from his cold dead hands! Braun doesn’t have to wait long as Jacob Fatu storms out, pushing past The Usos as they try to calm him and he sprints to the ring, starting a wild brawl with Braun!

The two big men are throwing bombs at each other as Shawn Michaels soon comes out with a swarm of security behind him, as he points to the ring. They try to stop the duo, but these monsters soon toss them to the side, showing no sign of stopping to get their hands on each other. So, Shawn is forced to call for low-card wrestlers from the back, who finally get both under control. Shawn tells the duo that this stops right now and makes a United States title match for next week’s SmackDown Live!

Match 2: Karrion Kross w/Nathan Frazer vs Gran Metalik

Match summary:
Kross enters this match in a foul mood, while Damian Priest joins commentary, telling Corey and Beth he'll leave the desk if Nathan interferes. Priest confirms he'll face Karrion Kross one-on-one at Armageddon. Metalik showcases his lucha libre skills during the bout and delivers an impressive performance, but Kross ultimately intercepts him before finishing with the Saito Suplex.

Winner via pinfall: Karrion Kross (5:28)

Karrion Kross has a smug look on his face as Nathan Frazer slides into the ring and raises the arm of the devil of the Church of Seth Rollins into the ring. The boos ring out, and the duo looks to attack Metalik after the match, but Damian Priest runs into the ring, taking care of the duo and sending them back. Neither member of the Church looks happy as they head to the back whilst Priest checks on Metalik.

We then cut backstage, where Chad Gable gives Buddy Murphy a fist bump and promises to meet him outside. As Gable steps away, Kayla Braxton approaches Buddy Murphy for an interview, asking how he feels about being part of the Academy after WrestleMania. Suddenly, SHINSUKE NAKAMURA SNEAKS ATTACKS HIM! A quick attack focuses on Murphy's ankle before Nakamura flees as Gable returns. Clearly in pain, Murphy tells Gable they're still headed to the ring as the 1st hour ends.

Match 3: WWE tag team titles: The Usos © vs Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Buddy Murphy)

Match summary:
Alpha Academy makes their way out first as the challengers and Buddy walks to the ring with a slight limp due to the damage done to his right leg. The commentary mentions that the injury will be a flashing light for the tag team champions after what they have done to Dominik Mysterio and Tucker Knight earlier in the year. The Usos make their way out after with a cocky smirk on their faces and lift their tag team titles in the air, with Beth Phoenix wondering if the Bloodline paid Nakamura to attack Murphy before the commercial break.

Chad and Murphy start the match with a lot of fire, catching The Usos off-guard, using their skills as single wrestlers to take control of the match but the tag team champions soon show everyone why they are superior as a tag team. They isolate Buddy Murphy and start to work over the Aussie superstar to boos from the crowd, cutting off the ring and stopping Chad Gable from getting involved to stop them. The heat builds up but Murphy eventually escapes, bringing Gable back into the match.

Gable runs wild and even shows shades of his mentor Kurt Angle as he tosses around both Jimmy and Jey with a series of German suplexes. He comes close to victory for the tag team, going for the OLYMPIC SLAM BUT JEY KICKS OUT! Gable looks to the corner and considers tagging Murphy into the match again but chooses not to due to the damage done to his leg. This proves to be costly as Jey recovers and they hit the 1D to plant Gable. Jimmy takes care of Buddy Murphy and The Usos retain the WWE tag team titles!

Winners via pinfall and still WWE tag team champions: The Usos (10:08)

The crowd loudly boos as the WWE tag team titles remain within The Bloodline. Buddy Murphy looks annoyed but gets checked on by the medical team whilst Chad Gable rolls to the outside. The Usos carry on the celebration in the ring, but the crowd soon goes wild as The Mysterios run out to a loud pop from the fans! Father and son sprint to the ring wanting to get their hands on the tag team champions… BUT THE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS QUICKLY BAIL!

The WWE tag team champions retreat up the entrance ramp, talking trash to the Mysterios in the ring when they are cut off by HEAVY MACHINERY! The powerhouses cut The Usos off and wipe them out with clotheslines before each picking up a Uso and slamming them down with a POWERBOMB ONTO THE ENTRANCE RAMP! They grab hold of the WWE tag team titles and lift them into the air, soaking in the cheers from the live crowd as they have a stare down with The Mysterios, who stand in the ring.

When we return from the commercial break, we see Heavy Machinery walking through the back, and Byron Saxton stops the former 2-time tag team champions for an interview. Byron asks Tucker Knight how it feels to be back and he says he would have loved to have been able to enjoy the time he got with his wife, but all he could think about were two things. The first was kicking The Usos’s ass and the second was seeing Otis face-to-face to ask why he tossed the towel in.

Otis stutters and says he was just trying to look after Tucky, but his friend shakes his head, telling Otis that he is a grown man and doesn’t need protecting. He tells Otis that he was pro him getting with Mandy, but he needs to know he is focused on getting the tag team titles back! Mandy Rose appears at this point and calms Tucker down, saying Otis has spent a lot of their dates talking about Tucky and getting revenge on The Usos. Tucker calms down and says sorry to Otis before sharing a hug with his best friend, whilst Mandy smiles in the background.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We then cut to the ring as Keith Lee makes his way out, getting a pretty loud pop from the crowd, who are starting to really get behind Mr. Money in the Bank over the last few weeks. He gets into the ring with a microphone in one hand and the briefcase in the other. He takes the time to spend the first few moments of the promo, getting the crowd to pause and bask in his glory before announcing that he wants to speak about his friend, Dominik Dijakovic. He says he knows he has a big decision to make and he is here to support him…

THE O.C. COMES OUT AND INTERRUPTS KEITH LEE!?! The crowd loudly boos as Finn Balor leads the way with Jordan Devlin, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows following their leader. Finn says he is tired of the company's focus being on Keith Lee when it should be on him, as the leader of the O.C. The crowd boos, but Finn makes it clear that he is planning on getting back to the top of SmackDown and he sees Keith Lee as someone who is standing in his way!

Keith Lee remains unfazed even when The O.C. surrounds him and stands on the ring apron S.H.I.E.L.D. style! Finn Balor is about to carry on his speech, but Keith makes it clear he ain’t waiting and CLOBBERS KARL ANDERSON SENDING HIM TO THE RING FLOOR! The rest of the O.C. enters the ring and lays into him with a series of blows. Keith Lee fends them off at first, using his briefcase plus his size and power… UNTIL JORDAN DEVLIN HITS A LOW BLOW STUNNING KEITH LEE!

Keith falls to his knees and this allows The O.C. to overwhelm him. The Good Brothers grab hold of him and lift him off the mat, getting him in the air before SLAMMING HIM DOWN WITH THE MAGIC KILLER! Meanwhile, Finn Balor heads to the corner of the ring and lines up Keith Lee. Suddenly, AJ Styles, Big Cass, and Dominik Dijakovic all run out, evening the numbers game. The O.C. flees from the ring and heads into the crowd just as Shawn Michaels comes out. Michaels tells Devlin and Cass to stay out here, explaining that everyone else needs to go to the back since Devlin will fight Big Cass after the commercial break.

Match 4: Big Cass vs Jordan Devlin

Match summary: When we return from the commercial break, Jordan Devlin is trying to use his speed to overcome the much bigger Big Cass. However, the big man controls the match, giving Devlin a bit of a beating to the delight of the live crowd. As Devlin tries to get back into the match, with no one to help him at ringside, Big Cass proves too much for the Irish superstar and finishes him off with the 7 '0 BOOT into the EAST RIVER CROSSING!

Winner via pinfall: Big Cass (5:37)

Big Cass gets back to his feet and celebrates the victory with a smile on his face, whilst Jordan Devlin rolls out of the ring looking to get away from the giant 7-footer! The crowd carries on the celebrations before we cut elsewhere.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We see Shinsuke Nakamura backstage talking to Zelina Vega with a big smile on their face and they seem to be sharing a massive wad of cash between them when Dominik Dijakovic walks up to them. Shinsuke hides the money, but Dijakovic makes it clear he doesn’t care about Nakamura’s ill-gotten gains doing the Bloodline’s dirty work because he has made the decision to leave the Ungovernables. The crowd watching in the arena starts to cheer as Zelina looks furious!

Zelina glares at Dijakovic and snaps, "You can’t just walk away!" Dijakovic folds his arms. "Or what? What are you going to do?" Nakamura steps forward, says flatly, "Show some respect to Zelina." Dijakovic hesitates, then blasts Nakamura with a punch. With Nakamura down, Dijakovic turns to Zelina: "Thanks for everything, but it’s my turn now. Nakamura, I want you next week on SmackDown."

When we return from the commercial break, Kevin Owens makes his way out, getting loud cheers from the live crowd, but he looks noticeably pissed off. He doesn’t waste any time once inside the ring and demands Bray Wyatt come out instead of hiding in his funhouse. At first, there is no sign of Bray Wyatt further angering Owens but eventually Bray appears on the titantron, starting up the Funhouse. Bray tries to do the usual opening to the funhouse but Owens cuts him off, saying that's enough!

Owens says he is not here for games from Bray and wants a fight. Bray starts to laugh and asks why Kevin is against fun, asking if he stopped his son from watching shows when he was young. Owens demands that Bray keep his son’s name out of his mouth, but Bray chuckles and holds a hand over his mouth. Bray tells Owens that if he wants to fight the fiend he will see him at Armageddon, but it will be his own personal hell! Kevin Owens is left angry in the ring as the segment comes to an end!

When we return from the commercial break, Mercedes Martinez comes out of the gym, where she is stopped for an interview by Kayla Braxton. Kayla welcomes her to SmackDown and wonders what her plan is. Mercedes keeps it short and sweet saying she came here to fight and she will fight her way into a rematch with Conti for the WWE Women’s title. They are soon interrupted by the House of Couture who mock Mercedes’s fashion sense. She rolls her eyes and challenges them to a fight, leading Jinny to volunteer Amale. She says something in French before they walk off, as Mercedes says badass is the same in any language.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Match 5: Franky Monet vs Carmella

Match summary:
Franky comes into this match in an aggressive fashion and looks to get some payback on Carmella for injuring her tag team partner, Dana Brooke. Carmella though, is thinking through her moves in a much more logical fashion compared to Franky’s aggressive start. Carmella takes control of the match and connects with a PRINCESS KICK to defeat Monet!

Winner via pinfall: Carmella (4:21)

Carmella gets back to her feet and celebrates the victory with a smile on her face, whilst Franky Monet looks furious that she came up short tonight. The commentary team puts over Carmella (especially Corey) and she carries on the celebration at the top of the entrance ramp.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut to the backstage area as The Mysterios are interviewed by Byron Saxton, who welcomes Dominik Mysterio and welcomes him back to SmackDown Live. Dom says it is good to be back and he knows how worried his dad was about him but now he has come back for one thing: to win the tag team titles from The Usos with his dad! Rey nods and says that he tried to get revenge with Edge, but doing it with his son will mean so much more. The Mysterios show respect to Heavy Machinery, but they make it clear they will take down anyone who stands in the way of bringing the Usos down!

We return from the final commercial break of the show ahead of the main event with Taynara Conti, the WWE Women’s Champion, making her way to the commentary desk. She talks about being happy to fight anyone and looks forward to putting the title on the line at Armageddon. When Naomi makes her way out, she mentions not liking how the Bloodline goes about business, but she is a 2-time former champion. Belair comes out next and Conti is full of praise for Belair, saying she feels if anyone right now is worthy of a title shot against her, it is the E.S.T!

Main event: Number one contender’s match for WWE Women’s title: Bianca Belair vs Naomi

Match summary:
Early on in the match, Naomi is trying to hit Belair with hard strikes but Belair hits her back harder, dropping Naomi. Conti on commentary says Belair is one of the strongest people on the roster, period and not someone you want to try to overpower. Naomi gets back into the match using the ponytail of Belair to cut her off, which gets loud boos from the crowd. Conti shakes her head and points out that this is the kind of trick she hates from the Bloodline.

Naomi works over Belair and tries to get her to tap out, but Belair stays strong to fight back and control the match as we head towards the closing stages. Belair gets Naomi up for the K.O.D… BUT NAOMI FIGHTS OUT AND PUSHES BELAIR INTO THE REFEREE! This knocks down the referee and allows EMBER MOON TO GET OUT FROM UNDER THE RING AND HIT BELAIR WITH THE MONEY IN THE BANK BRIEFCASE! She ducks out of view and Naomi follows it up with a SPILT-LEGGED MOONSAULT! She wakes up the referee and picks up the victory, advancing to Armageddon!

Winner via pinfall: Naomi (9:02)

Naomi gets to her feet and celebrates the victory as the camera catches Ember Moon sitting by the ring apron, clutching her briefcase as she laughs like a maniac. Taynara Conti says she is ready for a fight at Armageddon but right now, she thinks it is time to take care of something. She drops the headset onto the commentary desk and sprints around the ring as she attacks Ember Moon! The WWE Women’s Champion lays into Ember, who retreats in the ring…

NAOMI CHEAPS SHOTS THE CHAMPION! Boos from the crowd but Naomi lays into Conti, prompting a smirk from Ember Moon who slides into the ring and makes sure Bianca Belair can’t get involved as she clobbers her with the briefcase! Naomi and Ember work together to keep the faces down before standing tall in the middle of the ring. Ember looks at the champion and her briefcase for a moment but sees Naomi glaring at her, so she doesn’t for now as SmackDown Live comes to a close.

End of the week news update:

Adam Cole has not been called up to SmackDown Live

Adam Cole appeared on SmackDown Live this week to answer his open challenge and some people have speculated that this might be a call-up for the former NXT and North American Champion. We have confirmed it is not the case and more of a teaser for the fans, plus a way to sell the idea of going to the main roster to Adam Cole during ongoing contract negotiations. A lot of people speculate he might go to AEW, but WWE is looking to keep one of their top next stars.

There was nothing necessarily wrong with Raw, but it definitely feels the colder of the two shows this week. Just kind of feels like a lot of what's happening is already established and whilst it's solid enough, or logical progression, there's nothing overly groundbreaking as not a lot of stuff is transitioning right now. Even the War Games hype, it's solid enough. But there's no real feel of overly personal or heat to it. It's just solid enough and it's there.

SD almost feels like the complete opposite though. Danielson feels fresh as champion and the segment with Seth, leading to Adam Cole appearing and getting a near twenty minute title shot was awesome. Easily the best thing on either show this year.

But SD just feels like things are happening right now. Dijakovic officially made his decision, Tucker is back, Naomi became the new number one contender and you continued the Belair/Moon stuff. Then Lee gets involved with The OC, The Usos retain, I can keep going, but it just feels like there's so much more happening on the blue brand right now. Raw as okay, but SD was a lot of fun this week.

I will say I am deffo having a lot more fun with SmackDown atm than I am Raw even though Raw has the PPV coming up first lol. Honestly the downside of doing War Games for all the titles has left me with a 3 hour show with a lot less going on elsewhere. Might tweak a few of the post-PPV plans for Raw to freshen it up
