Oh yeah, tons of money. People canceled streaming services, canceled vacations, weddings, a lot of different things. The stocks were dropping drastically.
The market speaks.

I’m honestly so over politics at this point. First Charlie Kirk gets assassinated while trying to speak at a college campus because his opinions weren’t popular and then a late night television host gets suspended because he says something that the president doesn’t like to hear or whatever the case was. I miss pre-2015 so bad but it’s never coming back. I don’t think.

What I think is so specifically ironic too is that the studio heads probably don’t disagree a whole lot with any of Jimmy‘s views on most things but it just shows you how divisive we are right now.

I could respect it a little bit if the studio is being remotely truthful about just wanting to simmer the tension down as they mentioned in their press release and was always going to lift it this week because it shows that even though they agree with Jimmy on those things that they’re still taking some kind of accountability for the way those views can be interpreted, but it feels like obvious PR backspin.

I feel that. Like go back and watch the presidential debates, and things before that. They were great to each other. I think it was Mitt who wished Obama and Michelle a Happy Anniversary. You wouldn't see something like that today. They could disagree, but still treat each other with class and respect. The time someone tried to say how horrible of a human Obama was, and McCain shut it down quickly. Like I definitely miss when politics were like that. That was the spread truly of so much negativity and hate. People see the people who are supposed to be our leaders doing it, and it's like well they are doing it, has to be okay. So sad.

Trump couldn't even be respectful to McCain himself let a Democrat. "I like my war heroes not to get caught." But McCain saved Obamacare for that one, I think that will be some modern political lore that lives on

Exactly. There was a certain amount of respect even when they disagreed on policy but even more than just the politicians themselves, I could tell someone I voted for McCain and they voted for Obama. We might spend a couple minutes discussing why maybe even get heated for a second but then we would immediately talk about sports or television and then just go and grab a beer. That rarely happen today.

The shouting match Congress got into the day Kirk was shot was one of the most immature things I've ever seen

I can speak from experience that did not happen in East Texas, you had to hide you voted for Obama

There was an "impeach Obama" billboard put up after he was elected but before he'd even taken office, mostly bc of the birth certificate nonsense but they would have found any reason to say the black man wasn't legal

That was one of the most disrespectful things he said.

It wasn’t just him. The things he said about Cruz and his family and then he acts like nothing ever happened.

I remember in 2004 we did a fake election, Bush won but no one cared that kids voted Kerry. Fast forward to 2008 and between being 4 years older and the country being 4 years dumber, 7th graders were fighting about this fake election bc their parents were so heated already

Did you live in the heart of the tea party’s homebase lol yeah that shit was absolutely stupid.

I hated those fuckers with a passion.

I will say there were similar things like that with like bush during his eight years of presidency, but I think the difference or at least on the East Coast was someone could be absolutely passionately against bush and think that he was a war criminal and he committed treason and he should be, and what not but there wasn’t this vitriol against people that voted for Bush not like there is today.

I think the Obama/McCain election was the turning point. That was the last time your average person could be assumed to be reasonable regardless of political disagreements, I was in Tea party central so I didn't even get that one. Romney/Obama wasn't that bad either but it was noticeably different still, just not everywhere

Yeah, to be fair I do remember tensions rising a little bit more when Obama got elected for sure. So maybe I just say pre-2010 but I do think the dam completely broke in 2015.
