Speaking of that tho, I was reading up on the history of the laws surrounding the military use inside the country as it was topical sadly. I had no idea that was basically all slavery based too. Southern States requested troops get involved in finding their runaway slaves in free states bc the slave states didn't have jurisdiction but it was a federal law (the runaway slave act) but then during reconstruction they succeeded on getting the current law passed so they could them pass the Jim crow laws without the army stopping them from enforcing it after
