Speaking of that tho, I was reading up on the history of the laws surrounding the military use inside the country as it was topical sadly. I had no idea that was basically all slavery based too. Southern States requested troops get involved in finding their runaway slaves in free states bc the slave states didn't have jurisdiction but it was a federal law (the runaway slave act) but then during reconstruction they succeeded on getting the current law passed so they could them pass the Jim crow laws without the army stopping them from enforcing it after

I joke about my history education but slavery was still a huge part that we covered every year so it's not like it was ignored at all, but now that I'm older it's actually insane realizing some of the lens I viewed it in. It felt like it was a thing and everyone was fine with it, the North just didn't need slaves bc they didn't have farms and then one day they said it was wrong so civil war. And in reality it has been a losing fight since before we even won independence and the founding fathers new it would be abolished one day, they just didn't know how to do it peacefully

Now that I think about it, honestly the most fucked up "states rights" stuff I heard about the civil war trying to minimize slavery was in college, not even in regular school. But I took history at the community college in the same town lol

The decades leading up to the civil war are where most of the really fucked up slavery laws come from due to the free state slave state compromises as they continue to try to mitigate the issue without really directly addressing it, including the compromise line itself, which they eventually would just take Missouri as a slave state above that line anyway until they passed the fugitive slave law was specifically to enforce a previous agreement, they already agreed to. Shady all around.

The main reason I posted that though is despite anyone’s thoughts on Ben specifically not letting terrorists deter you from speaking or gathering is a net win. He could have easily cancelled his events.

I think most of the isolationists do want that.

That was one of the bigger rifts of the current online conservative movement. Those who are “American First” and those that aren’t.

Although I think that’s personally a misnomer because I could be for America, but also be willing to help allies overseas and interfere when we feel it in our best interests.

Like I’ve never been one of those people that wanted to stop supporting Ukraine because fuck Russia.

I think with a lot of things Trump just lied about his isolationism. He’s been becoming increasingly more willing to interfere overseas. The entire America first movement is actually pretty against Trump now. Which Trump knows doesn’t mean anything because this is it for him. So he can screw over his largest supporters. Not that I care because the America First crowd is also filled with Nazis like Nick Fuentes so fuck him.
