See I don't think it is that and you are giving people too much credit. Let me explain cause my friend is a Christian but he is anti-homophobia and anti people like Nigel Farage. Why? Because he actually read the bible and doesn't use it as an excuse. Actual Christians who have read will be happy to learn but people like Charlie Kirk, will pick and choose quotes to suit their agendas. I think a lot of the people who claim to be Christians, are fake ones who use the bible as a cover to look down down on people. You even said yourself that you learned and accepted people. You are an example of someone who has read the bible and isn't a bigot. Like I said earlier, there is a difference between right wing and far right

it's weird tho, I get what you're saying but I don't think it's quite as nefarious for most people outside of the grifters (which I think are exactly what you're describing) but your average, yet hateful Christian, isn't really conciously not following the word of God, they sadly believe they are still. They somehow DO read the Bible and miss the love thy neighbor message, I don't get it

I’ll start with this part and come back to the rest of your post but I agree with you. There is a difference but unfortunately and I say this was sadness I think most people in the right wing are transphobic. I don’t think that’s a far right position unless you’re talking about more hard-core anti-trans policy.

I do hope that evolves eventually because even the anti-gay marriage contingency in the right wing has been dying, not dead completely but lessening.

Maybe I'm just getting more and more fed up of my fellow countrymen at this time but I look at people who claim to be Christian yet just act the complete opposite. Especially the way people who are struggling are treated, I think these people just read what they want

I also don't think it's an extreme opinion on the right to be transphobic either which is what Smark's saying. And it's why I think it's important to push back on some language used so it doesn't continue to be more normalized. It's a very minority opinion outside of this website sadly. A lot of lefties think it's what lost them the current culture fight and want to drop it even, despicable

yeah I honestly think it's probably a meaningless distinction to make, I just can't ever help myself lol I think it's bc I do find the people that are straight up grifting and lying to be a lot more evil maybe but you don't really deal with those irl compared to the others

I'm a religious person, and I'll admit when I was younger, and actively going to church, I wasn't a great person. But I got older and became friends with people who I was taught to think less about, and realized they deserve to be happy just like anyone else deserve to be happy. Sadly some people never take the time to learn, and listen. Then sometimes even those who do take time to listen, are just to far gone to actually learn.

I see what you’re saying here and I wish more people would do this, but I would argue that regardless of which side you’re talking about, they are cherry picking the Bible because unfortunately the Bible isn’t a coherent single book. It’s actually a collection of books written by like five or six different authors and there are many contradictions throughout. Especially when we talking about the Christian Bible because the first half of the Old Testament is really just the original Hebrew Bible. Unfortunately a lot of the things that they will quote will come from the Old Testament. Thankfully, some Christians have adopted the mantra that the old covenant has been replaced by the new covenant and that’s where a lot of Jesus‘s teachings specifically come from like love the neighbor and not to judge but far too many Christians still feel obliged to honor the whole of the Bible, univocally.

I’m very happy for any Christian that can find a way out of their hatred, but far too many of them were taught a specific way to read the Bible when they were younger and they just don’t develop the critical skills necessary to reevaluate their positions on their religion and world.
