The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are set to get their very own live-action movie... again.

Variety reports that Mirage Group, which owns the rights to the property, is prepping a live-action film that will focus on the origins of the anthropomorphic sewer-dwellers.

Galen Walker, who produced the 2007 CGI iteration TMNT is onboard, as is Scott Mednick, who used to head up Legendary Pictures and also exec produced 300.

He told the trade mag: "The original dozen comics created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman are some of the best source material one could hope for."

Mednick added that the film will remain true to the spirit of the original comics, and may use sinister sounding "face replacement technology", which will allow the turtles to be much more expressive.

The movie is pencilled in for a 2011 release, and will be the fourth live-action film to star the Heroes in a Half Shell, with their first movie hitting screens back in 1990.

The 1st Ninja Turtles movie remains as one of my all time favorite movies. I just hope they don't look like the turtles did in the 3rd movie.

Should be interesting to see the final production when it's ready. I've always been a huge fan of TMNT, so hopefully this can finally provide us with some live action based on the original comics

I thought the most recent one (07 I think) would be a big fail but I liked it. But will this one have the turtles looking the same way they did the 1990's? Dudes in turtle suits with Corey Feldman doing the voiceover lol.
