I am looking for people to offer up Metal Album/s whether they be very well known or more independent and niche. I will then take my time to listen to them and give my honest thoughts on the album, and perhaps a potential rabbit hole it sent me down. People are more than happy to leave their own thoughts and feedbacks on the albums as well, but I am taking this as an opportunity to expand out of my comfort song and learn and perhaps add a few more records to my normal playlists or Spotify's generic algorithm suggestions.

DETONATOR BY RATT:
I have never heard of this band at all before, but the early vibes from Shame Shame Shame give me strong hair metal vibe so it is already a positive start. More so because it is just a type of metal that I was never really aware about until a few years ago. Scratch That Itch has some awesome guitar work going on. Two out of the three song I've heard have already drawn me in, and I am very much finding myself being pulled in to what I can see being a Ratt Rabbit Hole. The album has been really smooth for me and I am like eight songs deep and have absolutely nothing to complain about, so will most certainly have to explore the rest of their stuff. I am sure I can discover some other gems that I have never heard before. Givin' Yourself Away is such a powerful song to have at the end of the album, it is the first song on the album that feels like it closer to Pop-Metal but there is no denying that is bangs and is sweet as! A solid mellow to offer at the closing curtains of what I have to say has been a phenomenal album. This is 100% an album that I will be coming back too, and I find myself jumping from one lily pad to another with no idea if it will take my weight as I leap into the unknown.

Ytmeanstreak.JPG

MEAN STREAK BY Y&T: Another band that I have no idea about at all, so this will be another first time listen. Mean Streak itself stood out, which I suppose makes sense as the tittle track. I almost feel like I am taking a history lesson, without meaning to as there is something almost young and experimental or perhaps brave is a better word about some of these songs and not in a patronizing manner either. I suppose this album sort of has me leaving with the question of when does metal begin and when does hard rock end? I'm not sure if that is a rhetorical question or not as I find myself pondering whilst listening to Lonely Side of Town & Midnight In Tokyo. The rest of the album was solid enough, although for me there is is no doubt that I much prefer Ratt to Y&T.

Two more albums that have been thrown by way now are
Crimes of Passion by Pat Benatar & Blow My Fuse by Kix and I will be sure to check them both out at a later date, as neither rings a bell in my head either. Will save those two though, and move on to the next suggestion tomorrow.

Ratt is my favorite hair metal band of all time so I highly recommend all their albums. Of the suggested albums Kix - Blow My Fuse is damn good. If you’re looking for hair metal I’m definitely the guy to ask.

I must admit I never imagined Hair Metal even coming up so early on, but that will teach me for assuming anything. I already have created a secondary playlist in preparation. Apple Juice will secure all Glam Slammers.

250px-Nymphetamine_cover.jpg

NYMPHETAMINE BY CRADLE OF FILTH: A band name I have heard countless time, but never once actively listened too. Very curious with how this one will lead. To say the very first song is aggro would be an understatement. Just wow! Very much a strong way of either you are staying or you are going, Gilded C**t very much was a violent awakening. Nemesis had a very different feel for me, but has left me very curious and am very much committed to carry on listening. I wasn't sure at first, but the musical ensemble is hitting hard. Nymphetamine Overdose really stood out to me and I had to research who the female vocalist was, and so it seems that Liv Kristine is already the next direction I will be looking in. The song though was nine minutes, but at no point did I not enjoy it. I will admit I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle the lead singers vocals all the way through, but this song has really brought it back for me. There was a good portion where nothing really was changing my life, but I wasn't skipping song or moving on either. This was certainly out of my normal comfort zone, but for one song alone it was truly worth the listen.

250px-Aegiscover.jpg

AEGIS BY THEATRE OF TRAGEDY: This is the first album of note that I could find Live Kristine being part of, so I start having no idea where this is going to go. After four songs nothing has stood out and yet there is something surprisingly chill and mellow about this record. Looking at her wiki she appears to be in a few bands, so I might deep dive and look at different album after this one. The highlights were very much Siren and then followed up by Venus though. If I am not mistaken the second is Latin which is very chilling and fun all at the same time. This album was something I would never have found organically and I actually really had no complaints about it. Was not expecting this after listening to Cradle of Filth, but I do feel like I've gone on a tangent and moved away from the original work.

The_Aftermath_-_Midnattsol.jpg

THE AFTERMATH BY MIDNATTSOL: I am very curious what the twenty years difference and completely different band is going to sound like in this extended deep dive into the unknown. After the first three songs, I lost interest honestly and much preferred Aegis to Midnattsol and just pulled back from this exploration. Perhaps I will give it a second chance in the future.

First TBDM with Ryan Knight on lead guitar from Arsis. I find this album gets no love. It's incredible.

Fave tracks : Black Valor, necropolis, Christ deformed ( the iconic line of "semen peppers their faces " lmao ), death panorama and my fave is that which erodes the most tender of things. Enjoy

Lyrics are all brilliant as well . People talk shit about metal vocalists being dumb beasts but Trevor was a holder of a master's in English literature

DEFLORATE BY THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER: A few song in and this is already one of those metal albums that I am half and half. The instrumental part of the first three I am actually quite enjoying, but the vocals I am genuinely lost. I cant really decipher anything being said, so at this point I am left placing it into the same category as foreign language metal (and I quite enjoy a variety of Non-English Language metal and rock) so it isn't ruining it for me, although I suspect it could be better for me in perspective. I gave the album a full listen, but I didn't particularly feel like I connected to it at all. I know quite a few people that would 'bang the shit' out of it though, so might recommend it to some people if they don't know it already. Following the branch going to check out what is being offered as similar.

a3427286366_10.jpg

DOOM BY JOB FOR A COWBOY: A similar feel and it very guttural and loud. I am guessing we are in Death Metal land at this point in time? Entombment of a Machine was reaching out to me though. Still struggling to understand a single word, but hey it is kicking ass nonetheless. I almost feel that I would be better suited to have the lyrics in front of, but that just never going to happen when I am listening. I do find myself thinking a lot about Ramstein or some of the Scandinavian Metal I have listened to more recently, as I listen to this second album but sort of attaches to what I was getting from TBDM though. Perhaps that is the outcome from this particular scuba dive? The musical element though were loud and hard, and were enjoyable though. Neither of these albums are probably going to be something I revisit often, but I am glad I checked out both perhaps for the unearthing of one song that stood out.

Here’s a band that is universally thought of as a band that would of been much bigger if they came out a year or two earlier but this album came out right before Nirvana and grunge killed hair metal.

I'd recommend reading the lyrics and familiarizing with the vocal style for black Dahlia. It's a single vocalist doing both highs and lows. Once you start appreciating that I think it makes a huge difference. But if course that being said it doesn't guarantee it will resonate with you.

I like my necro fantasy and horror metal and it's not for everyone
