I feel like you have to split it into two.

It was just the wrong time to try the heel turn. This was a retirement tour. Retirement runs usually are about nostalgia, going through the hits one more time. This is someone who is a contender to be the GOAT face and fans wanted to cheer him one more time. The time to do the heel turn, if there ever was a time, was the early 2018 stint before he faced Undertaker.

Still, Cena's heel turn got cut from the legs right anyway with Rock never showing up again and Travis Scott just being involved. I was hoping for a two-man power trip with Randy Orton. The Wrestlemania match with Cody even before Travis Scott showed up was pretty bad unfortunately. Cena did some cool promo stuff as a heel and I did enjoy the R-Truth stuff and I did like Punk vs. Cena, but this was supposed to be Cena's retirement tour and it was just eh so far.

And smartly they just discarded it and let Cena do what he does best. And surprise, it was great (sans the Lesnar match what a waste that was). From Summerslam on is what we should have gotten the whole year.

Overall I enjoyed it, but the heel run definitely left a lot to be desired.
