The WWE now-a-days seems to be much lighter than in previous years. We don't see as much blood, Jerry "The King" Lawler, no longer uses the term, "puppies" and there is overall less cursing and big spots on WWE television and at times pay per views and at the moment, all of WWE television is rated TVPG, all three brands. What do you think makes Vince McMahon believe that this is best for his product, when it clearly isn't. I read in a lot of wrestling news letters and sites, that Vince McMahon is looking to make WWE television, gain in ratings, in the worst way and he wants the popularity to return to that of the famed "attitude era", but what confuses me is if he wants his company to gain its popularity that it lost post-attitude era, then why does he make his product the opposite of what was done in the attitude era. How many baby faces during the attitude era were suck ups to the fans and how many baby faces in WWE now, are suck ups to the fans? Maybe Vince McMahon should stop taking ideas, he thought up on the toilet and start watching some old wrestling tapes and then think of an elaborate storyline or a way in which he should promote his product and under what content displayed on his three brands.

I think Vince is looking to the future by trying to get kids to watch WWE and in turn, create a WWE fan who will stick with the product for life...that's what I'm getting from this.

That would be an excellent idea on his part. Get em while they are young. Basically though, I think that the WWE DOES have a much younger audience now a days then it once did.

And if you look at it from a marketing perspective, and the HUGE example of John Cena, look at all the products WWE offers to kids, They have toys, T-Shirts, backpacks, lunch boxes, all of this aimed at the kids. And in order to get all of that, he has to present a product that parents wont mind their kids watching. If wrestling had alot of 'puppies' and blood like it did in the past, do you think parents would allow their children to watch it? Perhaps the parents who are fans as well, but not alot of the parents whose kids are new to wrestling.

Plus back during the attitude era the main group watching were people in their teens to 30s. That was their core audience. They did what they had to do at that time to keep those fans interested. Which included showing alot of blood and boobs.

Now their audience still has some of those fans, but a whole new younger generation kids in age from 5 up, is being drawn into wrestling and the WWE has to cater to this core audience. Vince isnt really doing anything differently then he did before. Its the fans, and the audience that has changed. As a businessman, he cant be broadcasting an adult show aimed at a young audience. It wouldnt be good for business. Do you think that during the attitude era, if the WWE had started throwing Cenas and Batistas at us, we would have continued watching? No. If he starts throwing all the things that made wrestling popular during that time on WWE prgramming NOW, would the little kids (who are the main audience) watch, or more likely, be ALLOWED to watch it? No.

So just because wrestling isnt what it was back during the ever popular attitude era, doesnt mean it isnt good. When wrestling first started being shown on television, it wasnt what it was during the attitude era. People who were fans back in the days of Gorgeous George, Lou Thesz, and Bruno Sammartino, probably looked at the attitude era in the same WTF way we are looking at this one. As long as the fan base is evolving, the wrestling industry will adapt. It will continue to show exactly what it thinks is going to make their core audience happy. And when that generation loses interest, it will adapt again and show this new unknown audience exactly what it wants to see as well.

Children are easy to please. Give them a few big, muscular guys beating each other up in fancy outfits, lots of bright lights, loud music, and thats all she wrote. Thats what we are getting. Good news I think, is that those younger kids that are watching now, these last couple years when things have been moving slow (in our opinions) these kids have grown as well. Soon they will be expecting more than what amused them a couple years ago. And hopefully the WWE is on the ball, ready to provide it and THEN I have a feeling, business will pick up.

Your a ltitle late on this though.
WWE hasn't had the TONS of stuff since 2003. then, they still had a bit of attitude (enough) unttil 2006. After that though, they got a little childish. They still had good stuff, but it got a little tamer. But lately it's been back to 2003ish. It's not full of attitude, but they are pushing younger guys, adding more good storylines, giving some characters a dark/edgy side, so I'm fine with it.

Actually, most stuff geared towards kids will be forgotten when the viewer grows up. When people find out I'm a wrestling fan, all they talk about is Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan. They don't watch anymore, but when they were kids they loved it. See. 10 more years, you have a bunch of non-wrestling fans that say John Cena and Batista were awesome.

Yes, Vince McMahon is trying to make lifetime fans, targeting at the little kids, but the formula for the attitude era of edgy, adult programming, worked better and had better ratings, that was a time when everybody you knew watched it, even people that you didn't like and espically little kids having the short attention span that they have and WWE gets boring at times, I bet it's even worse watching the programming for them, now.

Well lets put it this way, more violent = more ratings, lol we live in a world were we love to see violence.

Putting TVPG and people not bleeding anymore will just make ratings drop individually, just like what blueberryking said, kids have short attencion spans and if it shows the same thing, and non-violence then they will just grow up and stop watching it. Vince needs to bring back a thing that is like an attitude era but some how better. He needs talent, brutal matches, NEW GM!, new champions(like cm punk), new and better storylines, & need to have more cursing and funny shit they used to have. If he continues this i can honestly seeing WWE having less ratings because of people today and shit. I think nows the time TNA are some other company capitalizes by using the shit they used in the attitude era and more.

If you actually think about it, they had alot of ratings and violence cuz, they need competition. Nows the time, nows the chance where TNA can do soemthing huge and soon they can be in a war or soemthing.
