That would be an excellent idea on his part. Get em while they are young. Basically though, I think that the WWE DOES have a much younger audience now a days then it once did.
And if you look at it from a marketing perspective, and the HUGE example of John Cena, look at all the products WWE offers to kids, They have toys, T-Shirts, backpacks, lunch boxes, all of this aimed at the kids. And in order to get all of that, he has to present a product that parents wont mind their kids watching. If wrestling had alot of 'puppies' and blood like it did in the past, do you think parents would allow their children to watch it? Perhaps the parents who are fans as well, but not alot of the parents whose kids are new to wrestling.
Plus back during the attitude era the main group watching were people in their teens to 30s. That was their core audience. They did what they had to do at that time to keep those fans interested. Which included showing alot of blood and boobs.
Now their audience still has some of those fans, but a whole new younger generation kids in age from 5 up, is being drawn into wrestling and the WWE has to cater to this core audience. Vince isnt really doing anything differently then he did before. Its the fans, and the audience that has changed. As a businessman, he cant be broadcasting an adult show aimed at a young audience. It wouldnt be good for business. Do you think that during the attitude era, if the WWE had started throwing Cenas and Batistas at us, we would have continued watching? No. If he starts throwing all the things that made wrestling popular during that time on WWE prgramming NOW, would the little kids (who are the main audience) watch, or more likely, be ALLOWED to watch it? No.
So just because wrestling isnt what it was back during the ever popular attitude era, doesnt mean it isnt good. When wrestling first started being shown on television, it wasnt what it was during the attitude era. People who were fans back in the days of Gorgeous George, Lou Thesz, and Bruno Sammartino, probably looked at the attitude era in the same WTF way we are looking at this one. As long as the fan base is evolving, the wrestling industry will adapt. It will continue to show exactly what it thinks is going to make their core audience happy. And when that generation loses interest, it will adapt again and show this new unknown audience exactly what it wants to see as well.
Children are easy to please. Give them a few big, muscular guys beating each other up in fancy outfits, lots of bright lights, loud music, and thats all she wrote. Thats what we are getting. Good news I think, is that those younger kids that are watching now, these last couple years when things have been moving slow (in our opinions) these kids have grown as well. Soon they will be expecting more than what amused them a couple years ago. And hopefully the WWE is on the ball, ready to provide it and THEN I have a feeling, business will pick up.
